The "Clean Water, Clean Beaches Program" has sent around a flyer that looks like junk mail, but it isn't. Do not throw this out. The County is trying to raise property taxes without going through the normal channels, and over 50% of property owners need to clip out the form on the bottom of page 3, check the box that you protest the tax, sign and send it back to the address that is listed above the coupon.

This is a big deal is you have property in Los Angeles County, and it amounts to quite a hefty increase per year.

This tax really has nothing to do with water and beaches - it is just another trick to slip through a tax to prop up the union pensions. You are very knowledgeable about how taxes are in NY or NJ, (I really enjoyed your posts on that the other day) but not how they do stuff in California. Proposition 30 just passed by fooling enough people, and now they are trying to hide that this is even a tax.

Are you seriously trying to explain to FlaFla that the government is trying to take more money to prop up giant payrolls for themselves?

He's in favor of that. He wants everyone else to have less so he feels better about having nothing.

It amazes me that theses tax bills get voted in. When I went to bed on election night, Jerry Browns tax bill was losing by a far amount. In the morning it passed overwhelmingly . I think it's all fixed. No way ,in a state where most of the population doesn't even work, would they vote in another tax.

It is because Jerry Brown and others went around saying it was for schools and "the children", and only effected people making over a certain amount of money. Neither were true. The Teachers union was pushing it because all the money went to the general fund and for their pensions.
