Police in the Saarland region of Germany pulled over a Ford Mondeo wagon last week for going about 80 mph in a 62-mph zone. Inside they found a Staples shopping spree in the front seat: a laptop with docking station, a router and wi-fi antenna tied to a cellular data stick, a printer and a power inverter to keep it all humming. The driver had taken some precautions toward distracted driving by mounting his cellphone to the windshield for hands-free use.

Drivers have gotten exponentially more retarded with the popularity of texting. The far left lane on the interstate is a fucking PIA nowadays with drivers going the fucking speed limit in that lane because they're fiddling with a smarty phone.

    Assholes.

Lets see he's got some of the same things in his car I have in my truck. Laptop, cell phone, gps, wifi router(aircard) with antenna. Add 1 satelite radio and backup camera monitor, you got my truck. Granted, my gear isn't glued to the dash for the world to see, but since my truck has giant FedEx logo on the side I don't want the world to see what I'm doing in there either.

Of course I did. I'm a Southern Redneck. The south is held together with duct tape, twine and bungie cords.

I don't get the texting thing. You're doing it on a device that allows you to speak to the other person w/o typing. If you don't enjoy speaking to them, why are you texting them? And what is so important you have to do it while driving?

What's really funny is people who use google voice to send texts.

What a generation of social misfits. Half the people under 30 can't look you in the eye.

I text people because generally, a text is less intrusive than a phone call. They can reply at their own convenience, and I can do it while standing in line at the grocery store so my conversation stays private. There are a whole lot of uses for texting, don't judge it based on teenagers who overuse it :)

And I do use Google Voice to text as well, mainly because I can reply from my computer. And if I want to take the conversation to a phone call, I just click "Call" in the conversation and GV calls my phone. You can either embrace technology, or shake your cane at it, it's your choice.
