America's Got Talent" is working to fill the vacant spot at the judge's table left by the departure of Sharon Osbourne ... and TMZ knows the identities of the 3 women the show has targeted.

According to our sources, producers have their eyes on Shannen Doherty, Carly Simon and Leann Rimes. We're told the show is looking for a strong and opinionated woman -- and they're thinkin' any one of them would fit the bill.

The judge's spot became available over the summer after Sharon Osbourne decided to quit the show after she claimed NBC dropped her son Jack from a reality show due to his MS diagnosis.

It's possible the producers could have other seats to fill -- we're told Howard Stern and Howie Mandel are not under contract for next season ... so it's conceivable the show could have an all-new judge's table.

As for Doherty, Simon and Rimes, we're told no offers have been made ... yet.

NBC spokesperson Sharon Pannozzo claims no such list of prospective judges exists -- but our sources, and they're good, say it does.

So does the horse, or we wouldn't be talking about her here.

    Goldigging takes initial effort.

If those are the women candidates for AGT, than you know who ever is running the show are out of their minds. First hiring Stern (a total disaster), now considering (relatively) past their prime females will really sink it next year, especially if Stern begs for his job back:dontknow:

AGT obviously wants an all-has been panel.

Carly is far to nice to be a useful judge on a talent show. SD is my bet. She's known to be a prima donna and is very vocal. It would also keep Howard off the panel.

If that list has any validity, it is interesting to note the demographic they're eying. Carley Simon is ancient, hasn't had a hit, or been on anyone's radar in 30 years. Most people who know her work are 50 years old (or older). Shannen Doherty is mostly known from 90210 in the early 90s; her demographic would mostly people folks in their mid 30s. LeeAnn Rimes is a niche celebrity only known outside Country Music circles for her tabloid antics. If she's on the list, it's most likely because they think she'd attract Southerners and maybe have some crossover appeal due to her Diva reputation.

With the ratings for reality TV going down across the board, I think you'll see those shows targeting new demographics. That's probably why they went with Stern...those idiots thought he still had a loyal male audience. Of those three names, I'd wager LeeAnn Rimes would be the choice; nobody would tune in to see Carley Simon. And Shannen Doherty has a reputation for being a cunt. LeeAnn Rimes just sleeps around, but hayseeds and blue-collar trailer-trash like her; plus she seems like she's got her shit together now.

I'd bet that Stern is out, and maybe Howie too. They'd be bright to bring in some goofball like Mario Lopez and a blaek from some 90s group that I don't give a shit about. LL Cool J seems to have a lot of time on his hands. Or maybe MC Hammer.

What is with "talent" shows hiring "Judges" with no talent and no history for picking talent? Shannen Doherty? Really? Carly Simon is way too introverted to do a show like that. And LeAnn Rimes is an anorexic freak with issues. Since when is yodeling country shit songs indicative of the ability to be entertaining on a TV show?

WTF is wrong with people who watch this schlock? Ever hear of a documentary? Go learn something.

I think that's the idea, they want someone who'll cause fights and problems. Because that might be interesting.

    Good idea, but some flaws

    1. Carly Simon - agree
    2. Doherty - She's known in that demographic, but only as being a huge PITA and unlikeable. She makes people cringe. Unless it's a total BS show with her cast as the villain, there would be no plus to this.
    3. Rimes sang country songs but contrary to popular thought most southern people do not listen to modern country music, certainly not enough to tune in to a TV show to see a singer, and her lifestyle is contrary to their values. (adultress, homewrecker, pill popper, weirdo, etc)

Just what AGT needs, a broad whose last job was a commercial for an online university to judge talent...
