I did not have a good experience at dinner last night

    - upscale place, Saturday night.

    - The table was wobbly. After a few minutes, I actually used my foot to stuff my drink napkin under the leg.

    - They had a decent sound system that was playing a nice mix of music, but then they played 'message in a bottle' by the Police and this young, fat Jonah Hill hipster faggot sitting next to me decided it would be funny to sing out really loud the "... sending out an sos... sending out an sos" part over and over again.

    - I almost never send food or drinks back, but the beer I ordered was completely flat - almost like water.

    - The place was busy so they used a food runner instead of our server handing us our food. This young chick, clearly in over her head, is all stressed out, in a hurry. Slams the food down, doesn't take away existing plates, she doesn't ask which plate goes to which person, etc. Food was okay, nothing great, nothing to write home about.

    - Young Jonah Hill fat hipster faggots leave and they clean push two tables together to seat the next group. This time it was 7 people where they have one person seated on the end, perpendicular to everyone else. You guessed it, that one person's back was right up against our table. Oh, and this group was a group of Indian/Pakistani Gupta/al-Queda types.

Does all this make me a nitpicking faggot? Sure, why not. But at the same time. The things I'm complaining about seem like pretty reasonable requests - table not wobbling, normal beer, people next to you being normal, etc. The waiter was a nice guy, this shit wasn't his fault, gave him a decent tip.

I had pizza hut last night, and it was shit.

I'm cool with that though, I shouldn't be eating pizza hut anyway.

You should have pulled out some guns, and laid waste to the whole restaurant.

That's the way we roll in the USA. :c

You deserve good service and food no matter how upscale they are and how busy they are. Not much you can do but strike that place off of your list. I do that a lot. We ate at a Tex Mex place last week, hardly upscale. They were busy and our service was lousy. There are a hundred other Tex Mex restaurants I can go to instead of that one.

That does suck. My boyfriend and I rarely eat out because of the odds we'll have nights like this. The last time we went out for dinner an annoying woman at the table next to us was YELLING instead of speaking in a normal tone. She was droning on and on about her kid to other women. They seemed like family. I shot quick glances at the other ladies and they looked bored out of their minds yet couldn't get a word in. I couldn't even hear my boyfriend speak over her.

You don't have to apologize, we're not asking for much when we dine out. Oh, and how could it have been such an upscale place if they allowed Jonah Hill f*golas and the other rowdy folks in? :)

Which one? We have a Mattito's right down the street but prefer Glorias or Manny's around here. Haven't tried Mi Cocina yet, but we had Chuy's a couple weeks ago and that was pretty good. I guess I'd rank that one my fav, with Gloria's second.

I miss the tex-mex in Austin. There was a place called Maudie's that had a plate called the Federale Special... nice greasy hangover buster that came with an ice cold Dos Equis. Also, in Houston there's a place called El Tiempo that is fantastic. Try to go there every time I make it back down... far superior to anything I've found in Dallas.

I guess in short I'm saying that Dallas tex-mex is shit compared to Houston or Austin, or maybe I'm just not hitting the right spots. I guess when "On the Border" wins a Dallasnews.com poll about good mexican places around here I should expect the scene to be fucked.

Sorry to hear that. I went out and had a lovely meal at this new Italian place, and was quite impressed.

I feel your pain though, nothing ruins a good meal like poor service.

I can honestly say, you just described the reasons I abhore going out to dinner, especially during the month of December. Normally I can let a few mishaps go but not Mr Reggae. He would have been beyond pissed and then the night is really ruined.

It was Chuys off the Tollway in Plano. I've been to Glorias a few times, it's pretty good. Never been to Mi cocina but there's one real close to home. My favorite is a local chain called Baja Grill. I think the food, in general, is better in Austin. I used to eat at Threadgills a lot for home cooking. Nothing like that around here. Same with the Salt Lick. On the Border is just inedible.

If you ever see a Hard 8, their BBQ is really good. Probably the best I've found around here. FKN told me that Matts Rancho Martinez in Allen is really good Tex Mex. I haven't been over there yet.

ya, this.... movies & new restaurants are always a crap shoot... we used to check out different restaurants until we realized we never went back for various reasons, so we have a handful of standbys we're happy with & stick to them.

I went to a fairly new place. Vitos. Had a salami, artichoke and mushroom pizza. CouplE of peronis. The ol lady had tirmisu, which she claimed was the best she ever had.
All in all good dinner, until she ran into a friend who is divorcing and we had to hear all her crap. I left them gabbing in the doorway and went to the bar.
    Thank God for booze.
