Howard was at his best when he was also at his most miserable...lonely, in his basement, hating his life and with nobody close to him and wishing he was a big star, but all the big stars laughed at him. Howard had the fire in his belly and he gated virtually everyone that was doing better than him or especially anyone that was happy. All Howard wanted was to be accepted by the celebrities he interviewed, but they all humored him to get the exposure his show offered and then laughed at him behind his back, and Howard knew it. He hated every aspect of his life, and that hatred for life drove him to be the manic funny man that he was (with Jackie's help).

On the other hand, Robin was fat and happy. She had the easiest job in show bidness, just reading the news and occasionally laughing at Howard and she was making six figures a year for working a few hours a day.

Fast forward to Sirius days and slowly Howard has achieved all the things that he wanted. He's friends with the celebrities, he got the scrawny blonde bimbo wife and he's finally making the jewbucks, but let's take a closer look at what is happening.

Suddenly, while Howard is now content and lazy Robin has become venomous and discontent. She hates virtually everyone and everything, and she can hardly contain the disdain she has for everyone and everything, including Hamptons Howie and his new lifestyle.

    So.....

Could Robin be the new Howard? If Robin has reached the point where she no longer gives a fuck (and she's inching closer to that point) could she just maybe be the new Howard, as Howard turns into the new Imus?

If I'm full of shit just ignore me, I've been drunk for hours and the spellchecking of this post took longer than writing it did.

Iremember when she goofed on Howard's personal weather man. That was pretty funny and Howard got genuinely annoyed but she didn't gave a shit.

"On the other hand, Robin was fat and happy."
    No.

She payed man whores to fuck her and was angry on air when he banged other chicks.
She have zero non payed friends. She is so mentally ill that the shrink cant help her.

Robin hates the world. She sees everything as a race war, like most blacks. She thinks she is oppressed by the white man. The fact is that she should be climbing in tree's in her home continent Africa. Then she might be happy. That is why she lives so high up in her house. She thinks its a tree.

    But:
The less you know. The more happy you are. This may be Robin's saving grace.

    My personal opinion.....

Robin is a 60 year old woman who really never knew what she wanted out of life. Being a nurse didn't satisfy her.

For some reason she didn't make the Air Force a career, so she went to broadcasting school. She was lucky she was black, and sounded white (that's not racist, that's the truth), so she moved up the ranks fairly quickly, and didn't have to work in alot of rinky dink markets, and pay a ton of dues.

She got lightning in a bottle meeting Howard, and before she knew it, she had everything she thought she wanted.

Everything that is, except a family, and friends that loved her for who she was, not for what she could do for them, or what she could buy for them.

    Just my 2 cents...

Good theory. Too bad Robin obviously lacks the intelligence (seriously, is she on some meds that rot the brain over time?) to use her newly acquired potential to create comedy. I think we are about to witness the biggest meltdown in Stern show history.

Bring back Jackie for the Jackie chair and I guarantee a spectacular Robin melt down.

Robin was always wacky and a know-it-all, but she didn't become annoying and insufferable until the beginning of the SIRIUS years. Her high and mighty attitude with foods/green drinks/health issues and talking down to fat people when she herself was fat. Her consistent plugs for her charities which has her name in lights over it, and strong arming the back office staff (who make peanuts) to donate .... I think the real turning point was after dating Jim Florentine and being off limits to Howard 100 News and then when Artie left there wasn't a 3rd voice to goof on her when Howard wouldn't. Then came the day she walked out of the studio over some ball-busting from Lisa G.'s news report and has been untouchable since.

Oh and treating her "news" as a serious segment instead of something that was there to comment and goof on and talk over by more than 2 other people in the studio, now it's all dead serious and long pauses with sometimes no comment from Howard. NPR is more lively. Her fumfering around is magnified 10 fold and I can't stand her tearing up news articles and hearing her goddamn printer over the airways, underneath interviews and such. Howard gets annoyed by the slighting buzz or him in his headphones, and that stuff gets a free pass?

Actually I think the number 1 problem is with less and less staff now, and Howard's extreme need for Robin, she gets whatever she wants now, she has him by the balls. Even gets to sit at home and do the show from there and has the goddamn nerve to lambast people that don't make it into work (physically). Who goes out in line to vote when they are recovering from an illness? And it's cold and rainy, to boot. Bullshit.

    I agree.

    Suck it up.

All of us, including me are going to feel terrible when she's dead by March.

    Interesting thing about this....
I agree, Robin has that "black person vs the white world" chip on her shoulder.
YET, she has always surrounded herself with white people. Her "friends" are white - when she used to hang out with AnnMarie & Stacy Lange & those girls & then there is Judith Regan & Martina Navitarola. And then there was Jim Florentine & that young blond guy that stole her money (whose name escapes me). Mr X was the only black person I can recall ever being in her life (besides her family).
And Robin also chose to do "white people" hobbies - like horse riding, Nascar, tennis.
As much as she hates the white man - she never exactly embraced the black community.

Robin is narcissistic and can be an asshole sometimes, but I cant imagine the show without her.

He sounds more miserable than ever to me. He got all the things he wanted, and realized it didn't change who he is at all. He's just not funny anymore(or doesn't have funny people around him anymore) so it's become less and less palatable or whatever word.

Stern is insecure and neurotic. It's a disease. He will never get over it. And it will get worse.

Which is good for us listeners.

well,,,,, I agree with some of your loooooong post....(and I'm bashed for MY posts??haha)
But you missed the obvious...that Howard wasn't prepared for Robin getting sick....and we all KNOW she is VERY ILL...this is month #6 ...and Robin is still unable to broadcast LIVE in studio...
So the show took on another dynamic.....without Robin in studio.

Just like bringing in a 3rd voice....Artie Lange.
that was a decision Robin hated the idea of....adding a THIRD VOICE when it was always Howard & Robin......
    not Howard, Robin AND ARtie.....

ironic isn't it? that now she's so ill she is no longer in studio....
    it's a sad situation imo...
the show would do fine without Robin at this point IMO...
I mean....Howard has RUINED THE NEWS with all the LIVE PLUGS AND COMMERCIAL BREAKS!!!!! Why even HAVE Robin read the news??
    Howard can do this too..
or let LisaG read the copy.....

it's become the Howard Stern LIVE PLUGS hour....with Robin .

So I agree with some of your opinions.....
....it's just too late to rescue the show...it's a mess imo...
but what else is there to listen to??
I'm a lOYAL FAN for over 23yrs...I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet....

.....the day Howard lets BoBo sit in studio..OR brings back JHeins WUS preview....or ANOTHER Jhein & Jason show....THEN MAYBE I WILL CANCEL!! haha

    peace & love

How come you refuse to acknowledge the presence of Jackie?
    Artie filled the JACKIE CHAIR.
Jackie Martling, remember him. He wrote all the funny bits & song parodies.

The show was radio gold when there was much less staff and Howard was much more involved in the show.

Howard, Robin, Fred, Jackie, Gary. That was the core group.

Billy West was a gamble, but he worked out. But I think Howard and Robin as on-air talent, and Fred and Jackie as "on the side" (in the studio, but mostly silent) was the perfect mix. Billy West was only great because (a) Jackie wrote his material and (b) Howard gave him free reign to say whatever about whoever. Mainly through the Jackie Puppet.

Stuttering John, Gange, Grillo, Benjy and later KC were not "main" characters but they did provide a lot of comedy.

Now there are close to 100 people in and out of the studio, I still don't know who half of them are, what they do or how they are related to the show.

Howard needs less staff and he needs to be more involved in the show. Fire the bullshit staff, no more news team, no more Howard TV, just the radio show. Bring back Jackie as head writer, have daily writing meetings after the show and come up with something funny. Turn against the celebrity "friends" and get real with the show again, start some wars with idiot celebrities, take the gloves off. The show could return to being edgy and funny.

    But it won't.
