I have lived in nyc most of my life, so havent had a car since college. Been spending alot of time in ca lately so bought a car, 2010 mercedes benz slk350 with 25,000 miles on it. Took the car in for scheduled maintenance yesterday and they told me i needed to replace my front brake pads. I bought my car at the same mercedes dealer i took it to for service. They claim when i bought the car the pads were 7mm, now they are less then 2mm . I HAVE DRIVEN LESS THEN 1000 miles in 9 months. From what i am read this is not even possible. Obviously i barely drive, and i am not a bad driver. Any thought on WTF?

city driving is murder on brakes.
stop & go as well as heavy footed will also add pre-mature wear.
    don't forget about hills.
Most of the brake wear will take place on the front axle.

I highly doubt you lost 5mm in 1,000 miles, city driving or not.

Do you ride the brake? I would think a Benz would have a nice ceramic pad, it should not have worn that fast. 25K seems a little early to me, two times that would be the norm I would think. My guess is they were wrong the first time.

...i own 2 classic mercedes 300 turbo diesels. find a reputable indy thru internet search. pm me and ill tell you where to get parts. always demand a german part, lemforder is a mercedes benz part but the grind the silver star off the rubber components (steering motor and rtans mounts center disk) dont go to the stealer. i mean the dealer.

I barely drive and do not ride the brakes! I am in los angeles now and only drove in the hills once...they seriously scare me. I dont know how there arent more accidents in those hills.

thats kind, but i bought the prepaid maintenance package so they have to cover it(1 set) even though at first they told me it wasnt covered- (the car still has over a year left on its original warranty). But every 1000 miles i have to replace brake pads? there has to be something wrong.

You have something wrong with your brakes. How is your gas mileage? If it's bad, maybe the brakes are "locking". I bought a used Trailblazer last summer and towed the camper up north (I'm in Michigan). What took 1.5 tanks of gas the previous summer (in a different Trailblazer, but same engine/trans) now took 3 tanks of gas. Took it in and discovered the brakes were squeezing the rotors due to some malfunction of the brake system.
