And the very first website he goes to brings up a virus warning. You're computer is infected. Click here to clean your system. He goes, "Dad, I think Jesus hates me."

I mean WTF is that all about? It was an innocuous site, The Chive.

So he's smart enough not to click the stupid warning message and brought it to my attention. I shut the thing off and on and installed FireFox. Then I went to The Chive and everything was fine.

I opened IE and did a couple of searches and no virus alerts.

I never was a fan of virus protection cause I find them more of a nuisance than a help. And to trigger a virus alert right out of the box seems fishy to me. It seems like a gimmick to get you to purchase virus protection.

probably a pop-up to get you to buy some kind of security software.

I have purchased AVG the last two years, and it's been great. Better than just having the built-in Windows antivirus software

Remove Windows install Linux. You will never see a virus again.

Well, like I said, I don't believe in it. Smart use will prevent viruses. If anything I'll run malwarebytes or something similar if I suspect a virus.

The irony is that in the past he would get viruses on every pc he touched and has hopefully learned his lesson by now. It was a cruel joke from the computer Gods to smack him with a warning the first site he tried to go to.

I don't have virus problems. The point was how would a brand new pc out of the box have a virus from going to the Chive? If anything it's probably IE. Piece of shit browser.

Imaged his laptop back to the toshiba disk. Next time he fucks it up it wipe it ... Rinse and repeat

Isn't The Chive a gossipy smut site where they post virus-y pics of Paris Hilton and her ilk? Random club skanks?

Try Ubuntu next time. It has a software center where you can install anything with a click of a button.
