So my boss's mom who's in her 80's broke a cookie cutter that her mom gave her when she was younger, it came apart where it was soldered together.

Attempts to have the local mechanic fix it proved fatal:

So, I was asked if we could make a new one. She didn't like any of the ones they bought her because this one was the perfect size for some reason, which only she knows why.

Anyhoo, I measured it carefully and drew it up on the computer machine and toolpathed it on the cad-cam:

Then I machined it out of a stainless steel bar we had laying around. The old one is on the left, the new one is on the right:

Then it was over to the band saw where I freed the little guy from the base he was machined on:

Next he goes to the belt sander to smooth out the saw marks on the back:

Now over to the buffing wheel for a little radiusing around the outside where her hand will push on it:

A little fine tuning with my chinese made swiss files:

    A perfect match:

Now heres a funny pic from my photobucket:

That was very sweet of you to do that for that old lady. You probably made her week.

It was maybe more sweet of him to have one of his guys do it and tie up a machine for a little bit.

Why did he try to have the local mechanic try to fix it first even?

I work in an industrial area, this guy fixes everything you bring to him. Cars, woodchippers, small engines. He welds for us, brazes.... Whatever.. He does it all.
