Even when Howard tries to incorporate a ghostwritten zinger into the flow of his normal conversation -- which he's always done -- he's embarrassing himself. He's become so out of practice that he's forgotten that timing and delivery are major factors in all of this. Last week, Eric the Actor talked about his medical condition, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Howard asked how many people have it, and Eric incorrectly stated nine out of ten people. They talked about the condition further, then moved on to discuss the real reason for the call: Eric quit his job doing commentary for TNA wrestling. Howard advised him that this was a mistake, and to try his best to get his job back. And just as they were wrapping up the conversation, Howard read, "More people have blown John Hein than have Eric's disease!" Forget that Howard has no idea what that means, or why it's supposed to be funny. You can't just drop a ghostwritten zinger in ten minutes after it's even topical and expect it to elicit anything but groans.
Is that a real number? I find that highly unlikely.
Me too. Benjy's a world-class bullshit artist, and 400,000 per year is even more unlikely. I'm sure he's paid upwards of 150,000-200,000 tops. Still great money, but not for the jokes he writes. If that's what you call them.
