Banning the guns isn't gonna help, at least not for 50 to 100 years because we have so many guns already, and by then there may be some other weapon available to the public capable of just as much damage. Put a much stronger emphasis on identifying the loons early and getting them treatment, as well as educating parents about signs that their kid isn't special but needs help and needs to be observed closely and nurtured in a non violent way. Stress conformity to these types, because independent thought is not gonna get them ahead in life.
We have to take our fucking shoes off and get pumped with radiation because of ONE failed shoe bomber and ONE failed underwear bomber - neither resulted in a single death, yet the rightwing could not move fast enough to impede freedom then.

Now tell us how airplanes should also be considered weapons because of 9/11.
OKC: 168 deaths
9/11: 3000 deaths
Gun-related deaths 2010: 8700+ (and even if they all died at the same time, gun nuts would still try and defend the unregulated lunacy).
Brilliant little shits saying how everyone should be armed. Heaven forbid someone blows a tire in that scenario.
A principal at an elementary school in a wealthy CT suburb would NOT anticipate some monster walking in wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a military-style Bush rifle with 30 rounds + hundreds more at the ready, so for the NRA idiots to use the line "had she been armed, she could've stopped it" shows just how delusional they are - goes along with the other ones about black helicopters.
There have been a lot of mass shootings in states with lax gun control, so am I supposed to believe that none of those bystanders had guns? Why didn't any of them turn into Clint Eastwood? You know why they didn't? Because most are like the real Eastwood - full of shit. Instincts are to duck, to run, to find cover, unless you're highly-trained. And if your idea is to put every principal, teacher, movie theater-goer through this type of training, who pays for it?
You all think you're Mad Max in a time of crisis when you're more likely George Costanza running out of a children's party.
Jesus, even cops accidentally shoot countless bystanders in pursuit of suspects who aren't even shooting back, yet some of you geniuses want everyone running around with a gun?

Newsweek's Megan McArdle Calls For Children To Be Trained To Run At Active Shooters
In an attempt to distract from an emerging debate over how much to strengthen gun laws, Newsweek and Daily Beast special correspondent Megan McArdle called for people, even children, to be trained to "gang rush" active shooters. The Department of Homeland Security, however, recommends that people evacuate or hide in response to an active shooter, and to take direct action only as a last resort and when your life is in "imminent" danger.
