Mine's probably Assassins, which is a Sondheim show about a bunch of famous assassins from history meeting up and justifying their actions. John Wilkes Booth, Charles J. Guiteau, Sam Byck, John Hinkley, etc.

was one of the first "real" broadway musicals I saw that I can remember (my father used to take me to light operas when i was very young). it's still once of the most moving performances on a stage because the characters suffer so much, strive for so much, and achieve so little.
