i think you can start a family at any age, but can you provide for the family in the event you only make another 10 or 15 years? life insurance is generally more expensive once you're out of your 30s, and 40 is a bit late to start saving.
sometimes i think kids would be fun, but at 58 i couldn't do that to kids: no way could i be active enough to be a full time father to them in 10 years or so when they most need an active dad, and if i'm lucky enough make it another 25 years i don't want to spend the last years trying to convince myself that the kids are just being rebellious and they don't really hate my guts.
some things you can do, maybe you shouldn't do or if you must do them, you should plan for it.

I think having kids later in life can be great, and without the stress of financial insecurity it would be even better. Imagine having kids and never once having to go without in order to take the best possible care of them
