Florida teen Kaitlyn Hunt, 19, accused of having sex with a 14 year old female Sebastian River High School classmate and fellow player on her school basketball team, was charged in February with 2 counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a 12-16 year old child and later released on $5,000 bail but has since had her bond revoked and will remain in jail until her trial begins according to WFTV.
Under the conditions of her pretrial court order, Hunt was forbidden from contacting the victim and on August 9 she was offered a plea deal to lesser, nonsexual charges. But on Monday The State Attorney’s Office withdrew that deal on allegations that she had violated the conditions of her release by repeatedly meeting with the victim, sending more than 20,000 text messages to the victim, and sending as many as 25 sexually explicit photos to the victim via the Internet. Prosecutors also claim that Hunt’s mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, had been communicating with the victim and urging her to delete texts exchanged with her daughter Kaitlyn.
“The victim told me that Kaitlyn Hunt spoke with her about giving her an iPod,” said Detective Jeremy Shepherd of the Indian River Sheriff’s Office. “I also observed videos and pictures of Kaitlyn Hunt.” In one text to the victim, Hunt wrote, “No matter what if they find out we talked I’m going to jail until trial starts.” Investigators also said the two girls would meet in person.
In another text, Hunt wrote, “You’re stupid…you want me to go in jail…you’re such a messed up person…you snitched on me.”
Hunt was booked into the Indian River County Jail Monday – just a week after her 19th birthday. The judge said Tuesday that Hunt chose to willfully violate the conditions of her bond on several occasions. Hunt’s attorneys asked for house arrest with no electronic devices but the judge said Hunt couldn’t be trusted to abide by the court order and sent her back to jail until the trial begins.
While the victim’s parents left the court smiling ear-to-ear, Hunt’s father remained behind in the nearly empty court room – wiping away tears.
