Chris "Mad Dog" Russo new three year contract with Sirius
Chris Russo signed a new three year contract with Sirius. I believe this will be his last contract with Sirius because it is only for three years. His show hours have been cut from 2-7 M-F to 3-6. He is doing a new 1 hour baseball show that will simulcast on the MLB Network between 2-3pm daily starting in 2014. His channel has been revamped with new shows. Dan Patrick's show has been move to the Mad Dog Channel. It is believed that Chris took a pay cut which would make sense since he is working less hours. On a sadder note Russo's father Tony passed away last week at age 82. He called in to the show many times going back to when Chris worked with Mike on WFAN. Chris is supposed to be back Tuesday.
If Howard signs another contract with Sirius I will be shocked if it is for any longer than 3 years just like the Mad Dog. Russo has made a lot of money. 15 million for the last five years and probably around six million for the next three as it is rumored he took a salary cut. He was probably making a $1 million+ a year at WFAN. He was never going to get three million a year from Sirius again. His show didn't have the ratings. You think Howard will ever see anything North of $30 million a year if he signs another contract. Sirius has to be losing tens of millions on Howard's contract right now.
No way any subscriber is keeping their contract with Sirius to listen to Howard a couple of days a week when he is not on vacation. The "Dog's contract is probably cost effective. He is being paid what he is worth. Stern is just stealing money. He knows it. Sirius knows it. No one and I repeat no one will ever offer Howard big money again.
