I've become a REALLY big super fan of his. I honestly think he MAY be the only one out there that FULLY possesses George Carlin's sheer IDGAS politically incorrect attitude the most among noted comics today.
I've listened to this O&A clip of Stanhope schooling ninny Jim Norton on AA like 10x. Stanhope in a very angry, yet respectful way tells Jim Norton AA is full of shit, overrated, and ineffectual. Norton is actually an alcohol teetotaler, and I'm not sure why?? He claims to have some bad black out waaaaayyyy back when he was like 17 and still is hung up on this martyr bullshit almost 30 years later.
Just a side note, wtf is the deal with O&A and their regular comics in AA or just not being able to drink??? It's creepy, it's like a fucking cult AA meeting when they're all in there together. Norton, Kelly, Vos, Quinn, Bennington etc etc etc ALL can't drink??? I've never seen THAT many 40 and 50 somethings together sooooo terrified of a simple Miller Lite in my life?? Ironically their whole stand up club business is completely supported by alcohol sales at clubs.
If you used that standard every comedian has fallen off.
Nah, the guy used to do a lot of comedy central specials and other television, but I think he's kind of thrown off that stuff to just do what he wants, which I admire him for. But getting a write up like that from the Times is a big deal for a stand up, he was featured with the regular theatre reviews, I was just saying good for him or something like that.
You can't "fall off the map" if you've always lived off the grid.
Stanhope is a real comic. He works hard on his material and any television he's done is a result of that effort. It came to him, not the other way around. It's not like he strove his entire career to do one season of the Man Show and a Comedy Central half-hour...
This New York Times article is testament to his work ethic.
Personally, I think this new one is the best thing he's done. The last couple were a little shaky, but Beer Hall Putsch is near perfect stand-up.
I think Beer Hall Putsch is his best album since No Refunds.
That album is fucking brilliant! My GF isn't a fan of his but I made her sit through his mothers suicide bit and she laughed her ass off. That bit is one of the funniest things I e ever heard. Love Stanhope
