late 30s early 40s? i did that too when i was between 36 and 45. everybody either had parents dying or were dying themselves. after a while those stop because everyone who is at risk, dies.
after that you just have to look forward to every 5 year mark: the actuarial tables show that people in the same generations seem to drop off on 5 yr periods rather than between them. if you survive the 5 year mark you are statistically likely to make it till the next fifth year.
so if you survive 35, statistically you are likely to make it to 40, etc. but everyone else drops away.
