He felt safer there, and where was he gonna go? You think he woulda sat in traffic in a limo for 8 hours? He wasn't gonna walk home. What, with all the regular commoners running around and all the dust? Imagine how dusty his wig would have gotten.
9-11 would have happened during a vacation day so it's a moot point.
This. What are the odds it would occur on the one day a week he actually works. And I have a problem with the entire premise. He was trying to GTF out of there almost immediately, it was Tom Chiusano that insisted he remain on the air...
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
He would stay ... after all its a short drive to where he lives now. He'd be on the next day too ... and he would lambast any staff who couldn't make it back into the city. "Get a penthouse closer to work like me ... we've got a radio show to do"
when you compare today's version of the stern show with the 2001, the difference is astonishing. if 9/11 occurred in 2013 howard would be saying things about having to find out who did it and we shouldn't jump to conclusions. maybe not.
chances are he'd be paralyzed with fear. i think all these years of psychotherapy have turned him into a cripple...fearing everything and trusting noone.
he's so isolated from day to day life, if he lost all his money he wouldn't be able to tie his own shoes or wipe his own ass.
in fact, i'm beginning to believe that beth's role in the howard stern universe isn't as a wife/lover/equal but is more like a nurse/minder/babysitter.
I think he'd stay out of safety and being more convenient then stuck in traffic. I've not listened to that show for a long time but apart from the "as it happens" event log there is nothing insightful about the show just some interesting reactions. Any channel you watched had far superior coverage and i doubt many people chose to keep the show on and not go straight to the tv.
I re-listened to it a while back... he says many, many times, "should we leave?" It's not as selfless as I remembered AT ALL.
No one rewrites history like the pelican... Which worked out great for him before the internet... That is why he is a fumbling fool these days.... he can't control what he has said like he used to, and he is having trouble figuring out how to adapt.
