Many of the suggestions above are great, I'll also add:
I've heard this many times, cook the meat primarily on one side (without burning) and only then flip it once and let it grill for color on the other side. After pulling off the grill and letting it rest for a few minutes, it should be perfect.
This always works for me.
I cook my steaks in a cast iron pan. Put it on the burner to char both side then throw it in the oven at 400 for 8-10 minutes. perfect steak and it keeps more of the juices in.
Salt and pepper. Let sit at least 5 mins. AFTER cooking.
Always season steaks with salt before cooking and let sit for a few minutes. It draw out the juices which caramelize into unreal flavors.
