Some asshole called in a "threat"....
And now the State Police are checking every truck entering the tunnels.
Fucking traffic is backed up like a bitch and it's not even 5:00 yet.
HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Investigators continue to inspect trucks at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel and Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was received.Deborah Cox with the Virginia State Police said the threatening phone call concerning the Hampton Roads region came in around 7:50 a.m. According to Corinne Geller with VSP, the call was by a man.
As a precaution, VSP is on heightened alert with increased patrols and commercial vehicle inspections.
"The threat included a time frame for the threat to occur, which has since expired," Cox said around 1 p.m.
Around noon, the Department of Homeland Security arrived on scene at the MMMBT. WAVY News' Erin Kelly reported VSP investigators were out with K-9 units.
The FBI and the Coast Guard were also assisting State Police. Petty Officer Brandyn Hill with the Coast Guard told WAVY.com USCG has provided two K-9 units and two small boats will patrol the bridge-tunnels.
There is a line of tractor-trailers waiting to be inspected at both sides of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. A sign at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel indicated trucks must stop northbound.
Inspections will continue throughout the day. Other traffic is moving along the interstate, but the tractor-trailer inspections are causing delays.
A spokeswoman for Norfolk Public Schools said school buses may be delayed as well. Anyone who is flying out of Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport will need to call the airline directly if stuck in traffic and may miss a flight.
An official with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel told WAVY.com a threat to that bridge-tunnel was not received, so traffic is not affected at this time. Additionally, a spokesperson with the Virginia Port Authority said businesses is as usual there.
The James River Bridge on Route 17 is an alternate route.
