You could always find a Zoroastrian one, they're pretty liberal and their religion is actually fascinating. That was the ancient Persian religion before Muslims overran them, and Zoroastrianism is probably one of the ideologies that inspired Jesus (it's very similar to Christianity, a lot of Zoroastrians became Christians in the late days of Persia). Their prophet, Zarathustra/Zoroaster, is the guy Nietzsche was referencing in Das Sprach Zarathustra. I always found it fascinating that a people as proud and iullstrious as the Persians allowed themselves to be converted to Islam by the Arabs, who had been their historical enemy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroastrianism
A pretty good friend of mine is a "Persian" Christian, so I totally get what you're saying about it being surprising the Persians let the Arab hoard convert them to Islam.
Fascinating about the other stuff per Zarathrustra. Never heard about it before.
Maybe if we would stop meddling in their internal affairs, they wouldn't hate us so much.
They were lopping off heads and enslaving millions before America was a global power. Our first interaction with them was the barbary pirates kidnapping shiploads of westerners. But yes, we are poking the hornets nest and stirring them up needlessly.
“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it." ~Frederic Bastiat
