Seems German car batteries cost as much as German cars.
...if youre looking for a group 49 battery go with interstate or bosch. pep boys often has perks on bosch check their website. optima battery if youre going to spend 200.
I used to have a VW, they wanted $167 to replace a headlight bulb. The bulb was $7, and $160 for the fucking tool...Fuck VW!! Buy American!!
Interstate is what I got. Thank gosh I have a battery tender.
Too cold for this.
...just buy the tool yourself. some auto parts stores loan tools for things like that. even american cars have specialty tools, japanese cars up the wazoo with the special wrench or socket its well worth it.
...if you have a volt meter you can check the charging voltage while the car is running to make sure your alternator and voltage regulator are working. any auto parts store can do a load test on the battery you have for free to make sure its not weak. how old is it. charge the battery fully before you take it for a load test. you can buy your own load tester at harbor freight for about 20 bucks.
Pretty much EVERY domestic battery is made by Johnson Controls now.
Like Water heaters, (State Industries) brand name means nothing now.
They're all rebranded.
...i have a top end battery from auto zone in my truck and that thing is/was almost indestructible. i left the radio on playing softly for at least 3 days maybe 4 over a forth of july holiday and it started right up. its been in the truck for at least 15 years. the truck has been sitting but i expect to charge it up at some point and keep going. i dont know who made it certainly not auto zone.
RP is our resident car guru! He knows ALL!!!
7 years old, it was time. Actually the exact fit is Duralast gold 95
...here you go, 15% off of bosch batteries at pep boys.
Bosch is made by... Johnson Controls.
...yeah duralast is in my truck.
...cool. i hope theyre making/recycling them in 'merica.
They built a plant in Mexico.
Optima? Johnson Controls. Now made in Mexico.
Same with Interstate, made by... Johnson Controls.
I did some research after spending $400 for two Interstate Megatrons for my F350.
One was bad right from the start. I replaced a non returnable $300 alternator and found a bad battery.
It still started (dual batteries)
I have a complete list compiled somewhere.
...if we have to pay that much for them they might as well make them here. ive never gotten a bad one but i check the build date to get a fresh one. the bosch in my diesel failed me when i tried to start it after some cold days here, i had to heat the key to get the door lock to work. the cold temps and not having driven it for a long time and it didnt have enough to crank it over. that was my own fault but i wanted to see if it would start.
They moved the plant to Mexico and we still pay the same amount.
Wall Street demands increased profits quarter after quarter.
A reasonable product and profit aren't enough anymore.
Actually, it's just the opposite. The standard used to be about 7-9x earnings. Now companies are trading upwards of 17-19x earnings.
