1919 "Black Sox" World Series footage unearthed

    A Canadian filmmaker has unearthed rare footage of the 1919 World Series -- as in the "Black Sox" scandal -- between the Chicago White Sox and the Cincinnati Reds.

    "I'm not aware of there being any other footage of the 1919 World Series," Bill Morrison, who found the black-and-white clip in the Canadian national archive, told the Columbus Dispatch recently, "yet it's inspired who-knows-how-many Hollywood movies."

    Members of the White Sox were accused of throwing the series. Eight players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, were subsequently banned from baseball for life after being accused of accepting money from gamblers.

    When I saw the screen say 'watching from 1000 miles away' i was like huh. They should make a replicate one and put it in cooperstown.

    It was like the beta version of espn scoreboard.

    if you freeze the footage on the scoreboard at 1:30 of the youtube clip, I believe it's game 5 of the series. Cincinatti won this game 2-0 (the score showing), and it's showing Chicago's pitcher's position with two errors.

    This was the game (portrayed in the movie 8 Men Out) where the pitcher Eddie Cicotte was forced to tank the game on his own and made a throwing error and fielding error on two consecutive plays....(the scoreboard in the clip show's the pitcher's name as 'murphy'...i'm assuming he came in to relieve cicotte)
