The original Howard Stern with his greatest bit ever
1969: height of the disco fad
Kinda sounded like Lieberman doing the VO
I saw 45 and thought wow am I old because I remember that. Im still old, but not THAT old.
No disco in '69. Height of disco was Saturday Night Fever
INSANE COHO LIPS
Yeah, you're making all us chicago guys older than we really are! 35 years ago in '79.
Oops. Sorry. I was using Stern math
Dahl was more irreverent for his time then Stern was ever. Stern had the good fortune of being in the biggest(by far) radio market in the country so his name got out there more than Dahl's did. I still remember Steve's song parodies like (to the tune of Pink Floyd's The Wall) "Hey Gacy! Leave those kids alone! All in all you're just a nother kid in the crawl...."
When Dahl came on the scene, radio was DJs announcing song titles and saying how cool the record was. Nothing else. Dahl threw that model on its head. The first linked clip he says "penis" and "masturbation" on live air. That was unheard of and sinful back then. These clips are pre-1980.
Howard told Steve Dahl to do those bits.
That's a stretch. It's pretty hard to be more irreverent than Stern saying he wants to fuck Mancow's dead daddy's corpse.
"Steve Ball?!? Steve Doll?!? Steve Saul?!? obin, I have never heard of this guy. I don't know why people insist I stole from him. He was a nobody."
There were/are plenty of guys who were/are better than Howard across the country. What sets Howard apart was his ability to self promote and him being in the right place at the right time. I think if Steve Dahl was in NYC instead of the Mid West, he might have had as big of a career as Howard.
When Howard was actually at the top of his game, he was great. But there were a lot of guys out there who could have had his career if they were in the right place at the right time and new how to self promote like Howard.
Thanks for posting those classic Dahl clips. But I think they are post-1980. The first clip is from WLS. The second is from 1981, the day before the hostages are scheduled to be released.
Sure, 20 years later!
I think your right, o&a played a sports clip a while back and the guy sounded just like him.
