Not Stern related, but I'm bored, and am sick of this "everyone is a winner" bullshit....this is why I interview the most apathetic 25 year olds who come in late, text all day, and expect that they should be making 100,000.....Fuck them, and their stupid I am special 2nd place-ness....

I am all for 2nd and 3rd. But this last place ribbon that says winner just doesn't teach kids how to strive to be better. It just tells the kids, OK your last place effort is best and good enough. Kids don't learn how to get better or compete harder in life. I don't know. Just my two cents.

Just not sure how giving a kid this ribbon for finishing 8th or 9th or 10th teaches them anything. I mean it's awesome they compete and are out there. But you gotta strive for a ribbon or an award, etc. It teaches you to be better. When competing for a job in the future or a spot on a roster in sports, you don't get drafted or hired for being behind everyone else in skills. Why teach a kid that at a young age??

All I say, I'm done haha! Just never got this new ribbon thing.

This. I also interview young hires and they look at you like you are crazy if they aren't starting at 6 figures...The system weeds them out but parents have done them no favors by paying them all of their lives to play xbox on the couch why the gardeners cut the grass.

I'm worried about the self-esteem of the other 43%. Maybe we should give them "that's ok too" trophies.

Finally, I get to agree with the majority, rewarding losers makes them apathetic while devaluing the efforts of the winners.

I think the "everyone-gets-a-trophy" thing started even before all the PC warm & fuzziness began overtaking society. Enrolling your kids in sports isn't cheap and I think parents want a little ROI after a season of sitting in the bleachers every Saturday.

Back in the late 90s when my son was playing baseball, it started at $200 bucks per season and went up every year (he played from age 4 to 11). He was a good athlete and getting the trophy was fun for a second, but unless your team wins the league championship, it's basically meaningless.

And I couldn't agree more about the entitlement of young shit heads and what they expect to be paid. I have a nephew who is the most unlikable spoiled brat on the planet. He's a senior in college and wants to run for Senate as a Democrat but has NEVER even held a part-time job and thinks working fast food is beneath him. Real man of the people there! It's a shame my brother & his wife praised his every bowel movement since birth. There's instilling self-esteem, and then there's creating a monster.

I don't think the kids even care about the trophy. They are perfectly happy with snacks after the game as the reward.
