Interstate 77 near the Virginia-North Carolina reopened early Monday following a series of chain-reaction wrecks involving nearly 100 vehicles along a mountainous, foggy stretch of the highway, killing three people and injured 25 others.
Virginia State Police determined 95 vehicles wrecked in 17 separate crashes within a mile span near the base of Fancy Gap Mountain, spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. The crashes began around 1:15 p.m. Sunday when there was heavy fog in the area.

is that 66?
Really bad Fog...all it takes is one wreck and then it's a chain reaction. I've only been in fog that bad once in my life, luckily nobody stopped in front of me.
nah, 66 is always stopped no way for anyone to get in an accident
It's I-77 near VA/NC border.
I remember one time A snow storm started on the highway at night and I could not see anything in front or behind me and I could not even see where to pull over . I was so scared I was crying and I could see that there was a semi that tipped over and The car was sliding everywhere.
Yeah those situations suck...see maybe not owning a car is a good thing Mario
Think it's about time they did something about that area?
I don't know what you can do about fog other than just shut the road down completely if the fog is too bad? I drove on Mt. Afton just west of Charlottesville, VA they have signs warning you about the fog the whole way up the mountain and have little lights on the shoulders of the road but it was still so bad I could barely see 2 feet in front of my car...scary shit.
People always in too big a hurry nowadays....
WTF is up with all the arson in Virginny???? Like 70 houses burned???
I hadn't heard about that...just looked it up. That's out on the eastern shore, the article I saw says most of the places are abandoned..leads me to believe it's bored kids....there really is nothing to do out there on the eastern shore.
I've been in fog like that too, in the woods through Hunterdon county. Couldn't see more than two feet in front of my car. Know what I did? I drove 5 miles an hour. They should either shut down the road during extreme fog and/or force a 5 mph zone with police lead cars.
Such a fucking senseless way to die.
.26 cent gallon gas tax in Maryland Mike Maryland blows
I think the bigger tragedy is living in Virginia.
