I'm watching this new documentary right now about the history of Tower Records. If you grew up in California, you'll know it, if not you should have.

We had three Tower records here in the Chicago area. I miss them. I found a copy of the Turner Diaries and the Anarchist Cookbook there.

My friends and I would cut classes, take the bus into San Francisco, and spend the day hanging out at the Tower Records at Bay and Columbus.

I had a friend who worked there. We were talking when someone came up and said "this record isn't marked" without missing a beat he took out his pen and drew a mark on the record and said "now it's marked."
He didn't last long on the job.

Dave Grohl did a doc called "sound city" a few years back about the rise and fall of the recording studios and one in particular because of the age of digital pro tools etc.

being in my 30s i have wandered some scummy little record shops in shady areas of down town san fransisco as a little kid. thumbed through records, tapes and then cd's. now everything is downloadable, which is great, but damn i miss real record stores

I work at a record store that has been open and independently owned for 42 years.

Tower records were a big deal in New York too. Spent many a day getting lost in this store. Loved them!

Used to have them in Philly area. I would spend hours in there.
Picked up a lot of great music over the years.
    I miss that place.

I've been on such a Pearl Jam kick lately.
I'm not even that big of a fan but that cd brings me right back to that time in my life. Just watched a good doc about them too.
