Disney and Lucasfilm will make a fifth Indiana Jones film eventually, although they're "not quite sure" when, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair.

A new Indiana Jones movie "will one day be made inside this company," said Kennedy. "We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it."

Disney bought Lucasfilm for more than $4 billion in October 2012. The deal included the rights to the Indiana Jones franchise, although Paramount Pictures retained marketing and film distribution rights until Disney acquired them as well in December 2013. Back then, Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn told Variety that "we haven't done anything" with Indiana Jones because "we don't have a story."

George Lucas created Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones Jr. in the early 1970s, and later introduced the character to Steven Spielberg, who would go on to direct all four films. The series kicked off in 1981 with Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed by 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. After a 19-year hiatus, the franchise returned in 2008 with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Rumors of a fifth Indiana Jones film have persisted for years. Actors such as Chris Pratt andBradley Cooper have reportedly been discussed as possible replacements for Harrison Ford, who will turn 73 this year.

Just as long as George Lucas has absolutely nothing to do with it, it could be worth the wait.

    "Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones!"

I remember hearing the same thing in the '60s when Sean Connery quit the Bond series. Characters like Bond, Sherlock Holmes, Dracula and Indy can go on forever, no matter who plays them. Yes, there will always be a definitive actor associated with the role, but the characters and stories can and do live on.

I think Chris Pratt is an excellent choice to play Dr. Jones. Like the above poster said, as long as Lucas has nothing to do with it, I'll go see it.

I love all the Lucas hate!

Here is a guy who created some of the most important stories to so many of these movie fanboys, and they all hate him! I kinda want Lucas to ruin all the stories just so I can watch all the people who are so emotionally invested in these silly kids' movies cry and cry!

Is it better to have lost at Star Wars than never to have Star Wars at all?

I don't understand why all these fanboys are so hungry to try and recapture the glory that these films brought to their youth! Does any adult really think a new Star Wars can be as awesome as it was when you were 9 or 10?

    Here's a pretty interesting read:

    http://moedred.livejournal.com/2009/03/04/

It's the transcript of a phone conference between Lucas, Spielberg, and Lawrence Kasdan outlining the ideas for the first Indiana Jones.

The hate for me is toward the new Lucas. Old Lucas used teams of support people to bounce ideas off of and create using everyone's best talents. New George is just an giant ego that has no peers. He has no one to tell him no or contribute with him.

Hell, if you want to talk about iconic "Lucas movie moments", his ex-wife had more to her credit than George did. She was a huge contributor to his projects.

Watch the behind the scenes of the prequel trilogy and Lucas just conducts himself like Caesar, literally giving thumbs up or thumbs down to ideas. you either match his vision or you're wrong.

Indy 4 is a perfect example. Spielberg, Ford, Connery, and many more of the producers all told Lucas the story was shit and needed work. For years he stubbornly said no. My story or nothing. The finally convinced him to let Oscar winner Frank Darabont try a hand at developing the story and script. Darabont spent an entire year working on it. The story goes that Georgie barely read it and said, nope. I still like mine better.

They finally decided better to do Indy 4 George's way than not be able to do it at all.

Frank Darabout called it the biggest wasted year in his entire life.

Well, when you create a monster that is as big and powerful as Star Wars, when fans act like the story is the greatest, most important tale ever told... I can see developing a rather ridiculous ego.

I still think it is funny how grown adults can get so upset over a movie sucking! Luckily this new Star Wars has no chance of sucking , you know because Lucas has nothing to do with it, and there won't be so much CG! :giggle:

MADtv got it right 15 years ago.
I still picture Lucas walking around his house in an Ewok costume.
