The other Artie thread got me thinking,
Do you think Howard ever came to Artie early on in his fucking-up stage and said, "Bro to bro, this shit has to stop. We have a job to do and you're great on this show, but I need you to show up sober."
Do you think it would have done any good?

    I think he did.

I also think that he stays away from Artie because, in his mind, he thinks it benefits his sobriety.

I don't think Howard is the evil person most here say he is.

The "cupcakes and Hawaiian Punch bit got old after a while.
It would have been such better radio to just address the real problem!

That really should have been Gary's job, but he's ineffectual and commands no respect.

Well than the question is why the fuck not?
Could you imagine employing someone FOR YEARS who you consider a "bro" and never saying "c'mon, you gotta straighten up"

    not once

From Sam Kinison to Hank the Angry, Drunken Dwarf, to Artie, Howard has always encouraged drug and alcohol abuse for the sake of good radio, not to mention his evil glee over someone self-destructing.

The encouragement was usually passive-aggressive, often done through intermediaries, and often done while playing dumb/feigning concern, but that was only because of the possibility of a lawsuit. Without that, Howard would have poured the shots/handed out the party favors himself.

I tend to agree, but with a personality like Howard's Gary can never do anything right. Since "right" keeps shifting.

Artie said on his podcast recently how pissed he was at Gary for making his voicemail on drugs a bit

Gary and Sabean's but ultimately Howard's because he calls all the shots over there. Tom Chiusano had a similar problem with KC. He worked and helped KC work through his problems until he attacked a co-worker and he was immediately escorted out of his job.

Maybe bro to lawyer to bro, or bro to Buchwald to bro, but never a direct bro to bro.

and for Gary having the gall to be offended by Artie goofing on Gary's fag first pitch afterwards.

If you live by "for the good of the show", be prepared to die by "for the good of the show", monkey cunt.

If Howard's douche-chilling transformation and hypocrisy didn't cast such a long shadow, Gary's would be front page news.
