I was watching SNL from last week and the monologue was Jonah Hill and the wrapper Future.
Jonah is going to perform with him and says "can I ask you something?"
And Future says, "no you can't use the n word"
And it made me think how can the word be so offensive and off-limits if you use it so liberally in your music?
And this goes for all rappers. Why use language that (white) people can't repeat? I don't use it in my private life, but feel like a dumbass censoring myself when I'm singing along with "gin and juice" in my car.
If this is stupid, I apologize . I'm a little buzzed on Vicodin

    And that's what I don't understand.
How can it be SO offensive when said by one person, but a term of endearment by another?

Because it's a repressive, derogatory word when coming from a honkey. Fags call each other fags, but they don't want straight people saying it. Same with a fat chick. She can refer to herself as fat, but look out if you refer to her as fat. The thing with the N word is that it doesn't matter that you're not calling them that. The word just coming out of your mouth is bad enough.

Well then I'd love to see it used less cavalierly in music.

Their culture is self-destructive. The civil rights movement was going the right way. They wanted the American dream and to be on equal footing. My dad went to high school in Detroit. Pretty even mix of blacks and whites back then. The blacks in his yearbooks look like people with a future. I don't know what happened, but integration finally happened and shortly thereafter they started a self-imposed segregation. It became not ok to fit into society as that was deemed as cooperating with the man. I really don't get it at all.

Don't mind at all when Blacks ask us not to use it. When whites say not to use it I'm like

What happens if you literally call someone "N-Word"? Is it just as offensive?

When actually discussing the word, why would have to all the sudden become 6-year-olds? Do we all fucking have baby ears!? If all you're doing is discussing it, saying the word "Reggie" isn't doing any more harm than any other words. If you're applying said word to a person or group of people, then sure. But then, see my first sentence.

As an example, when I say or type N-Word. What word IMMEDIATELY goes through your mind? It ain't fucking NAGGERS.

Edit: Oh, come on. Are we really that sensitive here where we can't have an honest discussion, and you have to actively sensor the word n i g g e r with "Reggie". How the fuck is that less offensive?
