As time draws near, we continue our big trip planning for this summer to NYC and Boston. We've seen shows or heard about these restaurants and wonder if they are as good as advertised and worth making the trips to find them. The food looks mouth watering, but who knows if it's just hype?? Are there better alternatives or secret hot spots?

    Thoughts...

I'd worry more about the food doing harm to you then the neighborhood.

There are Smith & Wollensky's across the country. Methinks Peter Luger's would be your go to NYC steak house experience

Just two thumbs up for the NYC places. The others I don't know much about.
Lots of good pizza places in NYC. Maybe Lombardi's.

Needs a res. a couple months in advance, and will have to go out to Brooklyn.
Don't think HS Cult Leader is looking to do that. If you want to pay more, go
to Sparks steakhouse in the middle of the city.

From grand central area, what's the best/safest way to get there with a family?

P.S., I know NOTHING about N.Y. besides what I see in movies and TV, I'm a west coaster.

Yeah, I would just stay in Manhattan. If you come again, you can venture out a
place or two. Besides, you will be spending plenty of cash. Don't need to spend
    anymore.

Boston - can't go wrong with any Legal Seafood there. Best secret (local) pizza is Galleria Umberto in the North End.
    - what Boston does have is amazing ice cream shops - Toscannis is mind blowing

NYC - Wolfgangs is a Peter Luger's knockoff and 99% as good with 100% less hassle.
    - Lombardi Pizza - very good. Eataly gives you a huge Italian food market and restaurants.
-BBQ - Hill Country or Mighty Quinn great options
-Katz's Deli is good if you want to hangout at the Lower East side.. Carnegie is fine if you want the experience.

If you tell me where you are staying in Boston and NYC. I'll give you more tips.

There are so many good places to eat in Boston for almost any type of food ... Seafood, Italian, Steak houses, Chinese food.
Legal Seafood. Many locations - Harborside will give you nice view.
    The Daily Catch
Neptune Oyster - North end - fun area.
    Row 34 _ yum!
    Lineage

There are lots of good places for steak.
    Abe and Louie

If you like Italian food, check out Rino's Place in Boston.

Robin, people who come to Manhattan and don't try the Scrambled Eggs and Truffles at Le Cirque have nothing going on in their lives.

Barking Crab is good but expensive. It's a tourist trap but then again, all the places downtown pretty much are.

Eagle Deli is awesome but it's sort of out of the way. Unless you're staying in that part of town I don't know if it's worth the trip. Not much else out there except BC.

Where are you staying and what do you plan on doing? If I know this I can steer you in a good direction.

I just got back from New York yesterday. I highly recommend the Olive Garden in Times Square. Amazing food, incredible atmosphere. Real old world New York vibe.
