I would see him replacing Howard before Jason Ellis
The big myth is that Howard is irreplaceable.
BWAHAHA! Didn't they try this shit at KROCK and other affiliates ... IT FAILED FUCKIN HORRIBLY!! If memory serves correctly. I can't stand this muthafuckah! Not my COT. I hope it works. Stern is GONE!
Interesting but I am still cancelling after my current year ends in Feb.
I think Carolla is making way too much money with his podcasts. I can't see Sirius ever giving out another Stern type contract even to Howard. But with Carolla's several podcasts and all the podcasts on his network, he probably makes upwards to $10 million a year. I don't think Sirius would give that to him since he isn't a big name.
This assault from all angles is music to my ears.
Fuck you Howard .... I piss on your career.
( I want my money back for the Private Parts soundtracks I purchased !!)
Carolla didn't do bad taking over for Howard on the West Coast. His numbers weren't Howard's numbers, but they were good. It was David Lee Roth (who was on KROCK) who failed miserably.
Now if they offered a rebroadcast deal for another ten and they share the ad revenue ... it would be worth it to me to not have to fuck around with the phone while driving.
...yup the critics are piling on.
I agree. As long as Adam can run his radio empire his way and still keep himself in his wealthy lifestyle, I can't see why he would shackle himself with Sirius.
The article was completely wrong about Adam's advertisers. He has real companies (Mazda, Burger King, Klein tools, etc) paying for spots.
TIL Sirius can negotiate through the media, too.
The funny thing is, Carolla is yesterday's papers, too. He's an alcoholic has-been, treading water and stretched too thin as it is. He's way too abrasive to be a cornerstone for a network, and he can't interview for shit.
The lack of viable alternatives is really Howard's only leverage in this situation.
Ironically, Artie is the only guy who could replace Howard, but his demons obviously wouldn't allow that.
I read somewhere that his show alone makes $15k an episode. If he only does 150 shows (and I know he does more), that is $2.25 million a year. His Lovelines podcast probably makes more per episode since it has more listeners. And he gets a cut of all the podcasts on his network. And he has very little expenses.
What about the PIRATE SHIP
While Howard is a shell of his former self, Adam isn't the right guy for this job either. The dude just isn't funny and the people that wear suits that think he is have a major problem. I don't know...maybe he's just as lucky as his douche friend Jimmy Kimmel.
I seriously don't know who I'd give the keys to over there at Sirius for those stations. I think they'd pull them off the air and just do comedy shows or allocate the channels for gay talk 24/7.
That was a decade ago, before Marci Turk killed comedy, before Gary The Retard was Gary The Conqueror, before Howard sold out completely and went fucking lame. Now Benjy could replace him and nobody would notice.
Therein lies the whole issue. The only person to replace the conman IS the CONMAN and he ain't up for it. If he were, he'd at least put his ass in that chair upto Thursday weekly. Artie? He just can't keep it together long enough.
I hope the THSS staff saved their cash. If ol'Howie does return, the show will still suffer and be TURK'd. Then, what does he do to appease his NON APOLOGIST fan base? He may as well just put Longface in the chair at this point.
Carolla sold his house and is building a new one. He didn't sell it to move to NY. Plus, one doesn't have to live in NY to broadcast on SiriusXM. The other thing is that Adam isn't much different than Stern these days. All either of them do is whine about the mundane. Comedy isn't part of either show. Adam is terrible at interviews. All he does is talk about himself. The guest is usually turned into nothing more than a sidekick. Both shows suck.
I like Adam pretty well and listen to his podcast regularly.
But I'm extremely skeptical of this article
1.) He's admitted many times that he's exhausted after talking for 90 minutes (about the length of most his podcasts).
2.) As someone else has mentioned, the days of Sirius giving gargantuan contracts to performers is probably a thing of the past.
3.) Between touring, podcasting, and his Mangria beverage, he's probably making more than Sirius would offer him.
4.) Sirius knows Adam is associated with being a failure after replacing Howard on west coast terrestrial in 2006 (even if his ratings weren't actually that bad, perception is more important than reality in some cases). Wouldn't they think that stigma would follow?
