Brock Allen Turner, the former Stanford swimmer who was charged with raping an unconscious woman in January of last year, will be sentenced to six months in county jail and probation. Prosecutors had recommended that Turner receive a sentence of six years, but judge Aaron Persky determined that Turner's age, 20, and lack of criminal history warranted him a much shorter sentence. “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him" said judge Aaron Persky in court.

Having to register as a sex offender for the next 60 years should be fun.

If I were the dad of the victim, he'd never make it through the 6 months and some relative of someone serving a serious sentence would have some money to burn.

How often must a registered sex offender appear in person to update his or her registration information?

A sex offender must appear in person, allow the jurisdiction to take a current photograph, and verify the information in each registry in which that sex offender is required to be registered not less frequently than:

Annually for a tier I sex offender,Every six months for a tier II sex offender, and Every three months for a tier III sex offender.

Sex offenders must carry out this schedule of personal appearances in all jurisdictions where they reside, are employed and attend school.

Its the money man, a poor white kid with a public defender would be doing 20 years. It doesn't matter what color you are, if you have enough cash you can by a judge.

Yes if he did not have money for a good attorney he would be fucked. But also there are such things called sentencing guidelines for all felonies. Designed to keep sentences in line because low crime areas were giving out massive sentences for similar crimes to their inner city counterparts. For almost any charge not murder, if you have no criminal history felony probation is the beginning of the guideline. I don't know the facts of the case but this is not uncommon. Im well versed in the courtroom.

Prominent attorneys are looked at like rock stars in a courthouse. You're not actually paying to buy off a judge that happens extremely rarely these days more so in poor communities then a courthouse like this would have been held in. Most typically you're paying for an attorney that has access to this judge. As in they would be at the same parties in the same circles, and at the same political fundraisers. If the prosecution is your golf buddy and you donate to every judges reelection campaign there is a good chance you will get a slap on the wrist.

We don't know the facts... The judge did. Trust me, they prefer to give you as much time as they can... Bet the case was soft.... As in,it wasn't actual rape rape. Just the next day regret and " I was drunk so" and I can't be accountable so ... It's was regret rape... See everyone can speculate....anyone actually got any facts? ... I guess I should read on first before I post but fck it...

    Exactly.

I have no soft spot for rapists, but a lot of people fall victim to false claims. The guy has a rape conviction, gets kicked out of one of the top schools in the country, has to register as a sex offender, and has ruined his reputation for life. Whose gonna hire him after a Google search?

Wouldn't "affluenza" imply that the kid didn't know it was wrong to make sweet passionate love to an unconscious woman?

Which, now that I'm thinking about it, isn't impossible for a college athlete...

Did his lawyer argue that? Did that Hail Mary defense Ethan Couch's slimy ambulance-chasing lawyer pulled of become a precedent other attorneys can point to?

Here's an article about the trial. Sounds like the attempted defense was more along the lines of he thought she had consented: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...conscious-woman-on-stanford-campus/?tid=a_inl

Indeed. There's no question that prosecutors and judges today are under tremendous pressure to perpetuate this bogus college "rape culture" meme that's being championed by feminazi activists who are never held accountable for shit. And please don't interpret this as me absolving Mr. Turner of any criminal wrongdoing - I have no idea what the facts of this particular case might be. I just learned my lesson from folks like Mike Nifong that it's unwise to speculate one way or the other.
