Loretta Lynch, the nominee for attorney general, said Wednesday during her confirmation hearing that she does not support the legalization of marijuana, and that she disagrees with President Barack Obama's remarks about the drug being no more dangerous than alcohol.

During her hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) asked, "Do you support the legalization of marijuana?"

"Senator, I do not," Lynch replied.

Sessions then went on to quote a 2014 New Yorker profile of Obama in which the president discussed his marijuana use as a young person. In that article, Obama called pot a "bad habit and a vice" and said he views it as more or less similar to the cigarettes he also used to smoke. "I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol," Obama said of the drug.

When Sessions asked Lynch if she agreed with Obama's remarks about his marijuana use, she appeared to take a harder line than the president.

"I certainly don't hold that view and don't agree with that view of marijuana as a substance," Lynch said. "I think the president was speaking from his personal experience and personal opinion, neither of which I'm able to share. But I can tell you that not only do I not support legalization of marijuana, it is not the position of the Department of Justice currently to support legalization, nor would it be the position if I were confirmed as attorney general."

    As I said. Next.

What's the deal with the President not being for legalization or at least federal decriminalization? Does he get money from the alcohol industry? Are Casinos, strip joints, and other businesses reliant on drunk patrons spending cash on drinks and doing foolish things influencing him? He's obviously personally not bothered by it or its "negative effects". And why do so few of his supporters complain about this?

It's OK. She is an open border, amnesty type, so all the drugs will be here anyway.

Her views on pot probably stem from her Baptist upbringing (her Dad was a Baptist minister), as well as being a drug and violent crime prosecutor. But I'm with you, I definitely wish he picked someone else.

Too bad he doesn't just pick an AG who will follow the Constitution. The DOJ will continue to go after White Police officers. Pot people have no worry - this administration wants you.

ahh. that explains her positions. when every dude who gets busted claims that he was addicted to marijuana (because that's what the justice system wants to hear) people who don't know, think it's real.
although there are those who are or who claim to be addicted, (typically weak minded, clueless to what addicted really is or chemically unbalanced), it's no different than booze.

most people like it and do it in moderation, some people crave it like fat girls and chocolate and do too much and a minority are worthless, fuck ups and do nothing but get high and claim this is addiction. my daily pot use is a choice. when i stop, there are no cravings or illness. i'm just bummed that i'm out. :leaf:

they need to work things out between the rip off price in stores and the medical price. cali has a great chance to leaglize in 2016. our chances are not so good but we'll try.

our med pot is still typically $300 to $400 an oz. it should be $250 or so at most. greedy politicians and greedy bidness owners are an evil combination.

My in-laws live in Maine and we go to visit them a couple times a year. Maine (and maybe Mass) might be one of the first states on the east coast to legalize it in 2016. Hope that's the case.

I never liked getting stoned, just a little buzzed. But I haven't really smoked in years and years. Since I've stopped, I've gotten into midi keyboards and virtual instruments etc. Would be fun to take a couple of hits and fuck around with that stuff.

    damn.

after the 2016 elections, we either legalize or i'm heading north. either oregon or colorado. i want to die in a legal pot state.

hopefully the federal politicians don't fuck it all up. i'm conservative but every local politician who fucked with our medical pot laws didn't get my vote and never will again.

i'm a states rights guy. the will of the people etc. too many of these politicians don't give a fuck what the vote out come is unless it's one of their pet projects. we legalized med pot then had to go to the courts to get the politicians to allow it to move forward. they claimed we didn't know what we voted for the first time and forced another vote. where they lost again.

    crack whores > politicians

i'm with you. i prefer a nice light high to being stoned. when i get high i pick up my harmonica or recorder and play some jazz. i keep wanting to get a sax but i know i'd just use it a few times then hang it on the wall. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I bought a hammered dulcimer in 2006 played around on it a few times and that was that. Been in the closet ever since. Should sell that thing.
