......The move has paid huge dividends for both parties. AGT has been the dominant force in its time slot since 2012 and continues to own the ratings in the summer months. Howard Stern has seen a tremendous cross over appeal to Middle America and is now beloved by the young audience that are AGT loyalists. Yes the self proclaimed: "King of all Media" has propelled himself into "America's Judge" and those who have tried to write off Howard Stern in the past, cannot deny the transformative appeal that he now has. Just like with his move to satellite radio, Howard Stern continues to defy the odds and always get the last laugh.

I just chimed in with a comment. I wonder if Rodney will leave it up or delete it. He sounds like a paid stooge.

Exactly how did it pay dividends for NBC? They got Howard at five times the cost of Piers Morgan (ten times if you count the cost to move the show) and got 2/3rds the ratings that Piers used to get.

And how has it paid dividends for Howard? He has alienated a large portion of his audience to kinda get recognized by kids some places.

:giggle: The only transformation Howard has successfully accomplished is merging his body--from wig cap to feet- to reflect his depraved insecure mind. If he hadn't gone on AGT, would he have implanted a homeless person's heel of their foot into his chin? Too many other disturbing physical instances that document his mentally challenged ideas, including #1 selecting Beth as his second wife. So heres my gratitude to you NBC! That obscene Stern salary from you empowered him to come out of the shadows in full star spangled flag scarf removing all doubt he is a disturbed creature.

Tommy from Malden is a bigger suck up than Bobo and Mariann. Howard made NBC #1? Howard made AGT the #1 summer show? So more people were watching it before Howard came on board because they are anticipating the addition of Howard? Howard turned AGT from hokey to cool?

The guy acts like it wasn't the #1 show before Wiggy came aboard. It was #1 from day 1 with Brandy and David Hasselhoff and defied the odds with increasing ratings from season four through six, then America's Closet Case came aboard and 30% of that gain vanished overnight.

It was more transformative for AGT than Howard, celebs don't get any bigger than Stern, he just added to the star power of NBC.

    Star power eh?

Why Howard Stern Is A Terrible Choice For NBC

NBC announced today that Howard Stern is taking over from Piers Morgan as a judge on the show America’s Got Talent. To accommodate Stern (who will continue to do his Sirius/XM radio show) production of the show is moving from Los Angeles to New York.

The high-profile addition of Stern is a much needed shot of publicity for NBC which is getting a reputation for being the least-watched network. For the first nine weeks of the current television season NBC ranked fourth among viewers with ratings down 7%.

So while Stern might come with a good amount of built-in publicity and a solid fan base, he could turn out to be a big waste of money for the network that is now owned by Comcast. As my colleague Jeff Bercovici pointed out, Stern is not exactly universally beloved. Marketing Evaluations polls the public about their attitude toward different celebrities and measures that with a Q score. The company last included Stern in its survey in 2009 but says his numbers tend to be pretty stable.

At that time, 72% of respondents were familiar with Stern. By grading him on a four-point scale, they produced a “positive Q” of 9 and a “negative Q” of 64. “That’s seven times more turn-off than turn-on,” says [company president Steven] Levitt.

Ouch. On top of that, the Parent Television Council has already slammed NBC for choosing Stern calling the move “an act of desperation for a flailing network.” The PTC rarely influences networks on its own but an avalanche of complaints about Stern could lead to advertisers shying away from the show.

One has to wonder why NBC is making such a risky move with one of its few hit shows. According to Horizon Media’s Brad Adgate, the summer show has been one of NBC’s top rated, normally pulling in an average 12 million viewers. Viewership was actually up a little in 2011.

And Stern isn’t coming cheap. Bercovici estimates that NBC will have to pay Stern $15 million for his services and that the network will spend an additional $10 million to move the show to New York. ( We estimate Stern earned $76 million between May 2010 and May 2011.) In order to make up for that cost NBC will have to convince advertisers to spend a little more for each ad and if the PTC can scare advertisers off and people stop tuning into the show because they dislike Stern – that could be tough.

Even Stern fans could potentially stay away from the show. America’s Got Talent in a pretty wholesome show. Stern, who has enjoyed an incredible amount of freedom on his Sirius show, will have to rein it in for network television. What fan wants to see a muzzled Stern? The radio star rallied against limitations for years when he was on terrestrial radio.
