Poldark star Aidan Turner is hotly tipped to be named as the next James Bond.

Fans are predicting the 32-year-old will leave behind Cornwall's tin mines and replace Daniel Craig in the slick world of international espionage.

Ladbrokes have slashed the odds for Mr Turner to be cast as the next 007, with odds of 1-2.

The Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston is currently second with odds of 2-1, with Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Damian Lewis also making the list.

Money talks, and it's the Poldark man that punters want as their next Bond.

Turner's been shaking and stirring the betting for the last week and it's not a huge surprise to see he's been backed into odds-on.

    – LADBROKES SPOKESMAN JESSICA BRIDGE

In May, Gillian Anderson caused a flurry of activity on social media, suggesting she would become the first female Bond by posting an update on Twitter saying: "It's Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for all the votes!"

Skyfall and Spectre director Sam Mendes has warned, however, that the choice of lead actor was "not a public vote".

Speaking at the Hay Festival, he said: "I can guarantee whatever happens with it, it will not be what you expect.

"That's what she (producer Barbara Broccoli) has been brilliant at, and that's how it'll survive."

Thanks for posting a pic, unlike the homo OP.

Never heard of or seen him before. Got a Timothy Dalton kind of Bond vibe.

That's not a good sign. The Dalton Bond movies were awful.

One of the two I thought was ok-ish. One was pretty bad. The fact that I can't remember the name offhand without looking at IMDB isn't good.

"The Living Daylights" is one of the best Bond movies ever.

That's the one where they make the Mujahedin out to be the good guys, right?

I guess nothing says Bond better than fighting along side Osama Bin Ladin in their never ending battle to overthrow western civilization.:ninja:

    Does M know about this?:bigthink

After a "rougher" Bond going back to a pretty boy Bond will seem out of place. I'd rather see a woman take the next role.

It was 1987 and they were fighting against the Soviets in Afghanistan. The Mujahedin were babyfaces in "Rambo III" and there was even a Special Thanks to them in the credits IIRC.

It was a really well done, smart spy movie that saw Dalton play a Bond that was much closer to how he is described in the books, a style that Daniel Craig ended up using of his portrayal as well. Also, the fight in the airplane at the end, on top of the cargo was sick!

Living Daylights had its moments and License to Kill was a funny parody of Noriega
