An Air Canada A320 appears to have clipped a power line and landed on its belly short of the runway then skidded all the way down the runway until it came to a stop. Air Canada tweeted that it "exited the runway" in the typical obfuscation style of AC. 23 injured, no deaths. Photo in the link below....looks pretty bad to me but glad everyone is ok. The aircraft was purchased in 1991.

I got a frat brother who flies an Airbus and he says they're rock solid....this is pilot error.

A giant rock that some idiot flew it into.......would constitute as pilot error.

Sure was... but the Airbus doesn't seem to be as solid as the rock it ran into.

Hey! Maybe Airbus could use that song by Bob Seeger in their commercials.

Isn't it a little early in the accident investigation to make a determination of "pilot error"? Just sayin'.

    You're right.

That being said my buddy is still one of the old school pilots that still looks at whatever Airbus they give him to fly on the outside before he even gets in the plane; plus he looks at the repair history and other info about the plane.
He's been through some serious shit flying those planes but he says that they're solid machines.

This is an interesting article about the fundamental differences between Boeing and Airbus fly-by-wire flight control systems. The article really has nothing specific to do with this latest AC landing crash and I'm sure there are many other opinions on the Boeing/Airbus fly-by-wire design controversy.

Shitty name for a plane. Just the name "Air Bus" conjures up thoughts of a crowded & smelly city bus spewing diesel fumes.

    I'll take a 787 Dreamliner any day!

It was flying a non-precision approach in crappy weather. In layman's terms it means flying by reference to instruments due to poor visibility The pilot descended below the MDA (minimum descent altitude) before seeing the runway. When that happens, all bets are off. They're lucky to be alive.

They flew around for an hour before deciding that they could even land. Plan B was to land at another airport.
It's early stages but this does seem like a big fuckup by the pilot.
By the looks of the damage its lucky that nobody was killed. They hit so hard the landing gear snapped off
