Al Roker says yellow cab snubbed him for being black JASON SILVERSTEIN NEW YORK DAILY NEWSUpdated: 11/21/2015 11:08 PM ET email CHRIS PIZZELLO/CHRIS PIZZELLO/INVISION/AP Famed weatherman Al Roker (right), seen in March with his son Nicholas, wife Deborah Roberts and daughter Leila (from left). Famed weatherman Al Roker rained down rage on Twitter Saturday night about an alleged snub by a taxi driver — an action the “Today” star said was racially motivated. “Filed a complaint today after getting passed up again by a NYC Yellow cab. Cabbie picked up a white guy a block away. Wonder why Uber wins?” Roker, who is black, wrote around 8:30 p.m. “This happens to folks of color every day. And while most cabbies do their job, there are those ignorant, racist ones who hurt the others...What really hurts, my 13 yr. old boy was with me and asked why the cabbie passed us. I said, ‘Nick, ignorant people make dumb choices.’” Roker told his 421,000 followers he would keep them “posted” on the complaint. AL ROKER VIA TWITTER Al Roker said on Twitter he was snubbed by a yellow cab. It’s unknown where and when the weatherman was allegedly shunned. Reps for Roker did not return requests for comment. Taxi and Limousine Commission chair Meera Joshi appeared to confirm the complaint in a statement to the Daily News. "Service refusal goes to the core of the taxi industry's social contract with the riding public and it will not be tolerated," she said. AL ROKER VIA TWITTER Al Roker's said in his tweets he believes the alleged snub was racially motivated, and said he filed a complaint. "We're grateful that Mr. Roker took the time to file a complaint, and I can assure him that we will investigate this thoroughly and take every appropriate action." The TLC website notes that it is illegal for yellow cab drivers to refuse a passenger “because of race, disability or destination within New York City.” Some complaints can lead to hearings between the customer and city officials. Roker, 61, has been forecasting for NBC's “Today” for nearly 20 years. His morning show on The Weather Channel, “Wake Up With Al,” was canceled last month after six years. I love that Al feels no need to take any other possibilities into account. He didn't get picked up so the cab driver absolutely must be racist. Al wants to sound all militant as if he's living in 1950's Mississippi. What an asshole. Is it possible the cabbie didn't see him and his nerd son? Of course not. Is it possible the white guy was there first and Al didn't realize it. Of course not. The struggle is real for Al.
