The perp sued a police department for running him over and beating him. That was nice of the lawyers to give him $1000:ucoffee:

An Alabama man who sued over being hit and kicked by police after leading them on a high-speed chase will get $1,000 in a settlement with the city of Birmingham, while his attorneys will take in $459,000, officials said Wednesday.

The incident gained public attention with the release of a 2008 video of police officers punching and kicking Anthony Warren as he lay on the ground after leading them on a roughly 20-minute high-speed chase.

The police would have gotten off easier had they shot him and then planted a weapon.

"Warren is serving a 20-year sentence for attempted murder stemming from his running over a police officer during the chase, in which he also hit a school bus and a patrol car before crashing and being ejected from his vehicle."

He shouldn't have run from the police.

It appears, $100,000 was for expenses which the lawyer is entitled to certainly. The only thing I can imagine is that the guy didn't take the case on a contingency and he is being paid for his actual time. or which I'm thinking may be the case, the lawyer is taking the money as a "fee" but has a side deal with the inmate to split the money secretly, the scum bag probably owed fines, child support and other money that he doesn't want anyone to get their hands on.

Choy said Warren received just $1,000 in "nominal damages" because the city proved that his injuries were the result of his wreck, rather than the action of the police officers. Warren alleged otherwise.
