Director Ridley Scott revealed the link between Prometheus and Alien to be within a character played by Guy Pearce. In Alien, a company called Weyland-Yutani sent the Nostromo ship into space, and Pearce is playing Peter Weyland in Prometheus. It's a good thing we have that information as a bit of a viral campaign is beginning with a new video at TED2023 (or Technology, Entertainment and Design), which has previously featured talks from J.J. Abrams, has Pearce speaking as Weyland about changing the world and making the future through his company Weyland Industries. This is just awesome! The video has Weyland speaking in the year 2023.

The page on the official TED blog describes Peter Weyland (Pearce) like this:
It's not exactly clear how all this will tie into Prometheus yet, but apparently this video will not be in the film itself. However, Ridley Scott's son, Luke Scott, directed the video which was conceived by the Alien director and also Damon Lindelof, the writer of Prometheus. In fact, The TED blog also has a great Q&A with Lindelof about writing a lecture for their series as if it took place in the future and about TED in general. You can check that out right here. An website for Weyland is also up at WeylandIndustries.com:

Right now it prominently features the video saying, "Considered a seminal moment in the career of our founder Peter Weyland, this 2023 TED Talk launched Weyland Corp into the international spotlight. In honor of our 50th year, Weyland Corp is planning to offer a new round of investment soon. Interested parties can expect to find out more within the next few days." It also lists the hashtag #WeylandInvestors so there's likely more to come from this website and a hopefully exciting viral campaign leading up to the release of the film in June.

I love all the Alien movies, even the latter ones that arguably sucked. I hope this installment won't be a letdown:pray:

And yet they keep denying that it is a prequel to Alien.

    Its not.

It just takes place in that same imaginary universe.

If Dan O'Bannon were still alive, I bet he would bitch, whine and complain about this movie and take all the credit like he did on Alien.

    Dead and still bitter.

Ridley did it better than Dark Star.

    Nerd out. :coffee:

Have they even admitted that much? Despite the numerous images that show stuff that was apparently in the Alien film being in Prometheus?

Scott said that fans will notice some "shared DNA." The crash site and "space jockey" appear in the trailer for sure.

    Sure.

The video shows Guy Pearce playing Peter Weyland. As far as I know, that's the connection to Alien along with the Space Jockey.

Other than that I think its a whole new story. :coffee:

They are on the same planet/crashed ship that is in the original Alien as well. At least that's how it looks. It's being shot in 3D, and from what is being reported it's being done VERY well. Not just the typical "Oh gee, something is flying at the screen now" stuff. I can't wait to see it, whatever it ends up being.

IMO, Ridley Scott is the best director in my lifetime. I've no doubt its going to be a great movie.

I didn't think it was going to be on the same planet used in the first two movies but who knows.

    Agreed.

Scott doing Sci-Fi is a very good thing.
