Thoughts on it? Am I better off just "assembling" one from New Egg?

All I really use a PC for is casual gaming and internet porn. The only real requirement I have is to be fast enough to school Froggy on Halo.

i have an M15X. Weighs a ton and gets hot enough to fry eggs.

if you're looking at a desktop, you can probably build something the same as the alienware box for about $1200. I would use dual graphics cards (which is what would pump up the cost). a single card box would be more like $800-$1000

Are you a member of the corporate discount program from Dell? Some great deals can be had through it.

The $699 model has an I3 processor in it so, no. You won't be good for new games in a couple of years, IMO. You aren't going to get much of a gaming machine for $699.
