The guys from Super Troopers are making a sequel and they want their fans to pay the upfront production costs. At least they're not asking them to donate to a sham charity for a vanity construction pet-related project...

    From CNET:
The company has launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund "Super Troopers 2," which will feature the same five actors who played the wacky troopers in the original film. The group told Variety that Fox Searchlight Pictures will release the film once it's completed, but the deal required Broken Lizard to raise all of the money itself. As long as the campaign gets $2,000,000 (about £1,340,000, AU$2,550,000) by April 24, "Super Troopers 2" will go into preproduction in May with a targeted release date of early 2016.

The campaign has already been backed to the tune of over $1.8 million, or 93 percent funded, making it very likely that Broken Lizard will be able to raise the funds needed to make "Super Troopers 2" a reality. There's still a month left to back the campaign for those interested, of course, with multiple funding levels scoring backers different perks like tickets when the movie is released, Twitter shout-outs, T-shirts, fake mustaches and even private theater screenings for those who pony up the big bucks.

"Super Troopers 2" is ideally expected to land in theaters sometime in 2016, and Captain O'Hagan is still ready to pistol-whip the next guy who says, "Shenanigans."

Nope, which is why crowd funding is stupid as shit.

Im sure it exists, but the real cool site would be one where businesses propose their intentions and request funding. And you get certain equity based upon different donations made. Basically Shark Tank, but where everyone can participate.

If anyone knows of one such site, please point me in that direction.

Funny, I like the movie but actually consider it highly overrated. Got so fuckin sick of it as a teenager.

then its disguising millionaires are begging poor people who they know are swayed by celebrity, to fund their profitable projects

thats an awesome business idea, take .5% of the transactions.
tho im sure something like that exists

Yep, just take a fraction of the transaction as a fee. Its like lending club, p2p lending, incredible idea. Connect lenders with borrowers, set interest rates, and take a fee per transaction. But it would be great if there was a lending club for business looking for financing and giving up equity.

Ya know Robin, this whole thing with people asking for donations to make a movie pisses me off! Who do these guys think they are?? Asking their fans to fund their fucking movie! I'd never expect my fans to donate money! You guys are rich! Use you own money!!! Right Robin? Robin.....

These shitheads will fund Gigli 2 if you provide them with a Kickstarter link.

I'm surprised studios even bother paying production costs at this point. God knows if Marvel Studios asked the nerds of the galaxy to fund the next Avengers shit will be at 1 billion financed by tomorrow evening.

I don't like this trend of fans paying for movie production.
It is just kinda...I dunno, sleazy
