Reading through earlier threads on him wearing a wig, I've been thoroughly fascinated by this scenario. As I understand it, much of Howard's popularity in the 80s and 90s came from him portraying himself as a regular married guy with real life problems and urges to deal with. I've also read that his popularity dropped quite a bit when he got divorced and started experimenting with that phony celebrity lifestyle. So my question is, based on the above, what would you think would have happened if he had taken the line "Robin, I gotta tell you, I think I'm starting to lose my hair, and I need to do something about it!", and then slowly but surely started drifting towards becoming a (charmingly?) self-deprecating, aging version of his old radio persona? In retrospect, I think I would have much rather seen that version of Howie...
