I don't understand why people feel they are unlawful.

I received a ticket in the mail yesterday for running a red light that had a camera. I went online to where I could see a video of my car blatantly running a red light.

The only thing unlawful in the entire transaction was me.

Well I certainly won't run the red light I did ever again so I'd say they serve a much greater purpose than simply generating revenue.

Im in favor of Judge Dredd-type immediate trial and punishment for red light runners.

I dont necessarily think that the owner of a car should be liable for any infraction caused by other drivers.

Plus, having that camera at that intersection allows police resources to be utilized more effectively.

Don't let people you don't trust drive your car then.

Its usually a multiple angle shot with one bring thru the wind shield showing the driver. If its not you its dropped.

It's been proven that they shorten the yellow light so they can snag more people. Sorry, I mean money.

it's a scam. our city tried them "for our safety". It failed.
not so surprisingly, it was all about money jimmy. and when the city realized they had hidden costs such as people appealing the tickets, and the real amount of money they were making was much less than advertised, possibly none at all, the cameras came down.

As long as it is a reduced fine and no points i cant complain much. In nyc i think it is $50. Sucks, but a parking ticket is $115, so red light aint that pricey.

I am for them, in principle. Around here people blow through red lights all the damn time and I'm no traffic expert but it seems pretty unsafe. (Not to mention adds to traffic snarls.) I live in Manhattan fifteen years and I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen an NYPD issuing a moving violation. Obeying traffic signals is sort of a fundamental cornerstone concept of a society and communal living and when you have people disregarding something as basic as that what do you have? Anarchy.

Here's a question: "Bobby Axelrod is sent a traffic citation for running a red light. The citation was based upon a traffic camera owned and operated by a private company, Cameras, Inc., which works under contract for the city. Images are processed by Cameras, Inc. before being provided to the local police. It's Axelrod's third citation, meaning he could lose his license. His state allows for a bench trial for license revocation proceedings. If Axelrod wants to challenge the citation, what is his best challenge to the introduction of the citation: (a) hearsay; (b) best evidence rule; (c) authentication; (d) relevancy.

I wasn't a aware there was a camera and missed a yellow turning red by less than a second. I was making a right hand turn with all traffic still stopped waiting for their green. $500+ ticket. Safety ensured!

Luckily a clause in the contract was unlawful. Fought it and won.

    Fuck you Red Flex.

Why would I challenge it when there is clear proof I ran the red light?

Cities seem to invariably tweak the signal timing to catch more citizens and rake in more money. Not impressed.

Like in finding unarmed black kids to harass and arrest or just yukking it up with other cops in parked cop cars in an empty Wendy's parking lot?

Red light cameras are a joke and have been getting yanked out of cities in Southern California left and right for good reason. Make the cops work. It IS their job after all.

Gotta' think like someone who does not want to admit anything and wants to save $$ and his license. ;) The whole point is to challenge the admissibility of the "proof." (I am-and probably only I am-- just having fun here. Believe it or not, there is a lively debate about whether license plates can be challenged as hearsay (in other words, that they violate one of the general rules governing legally admissible evidence) or can be admitted under non-hearsay rules (in other words, exceptions to the general rules).)

Sorry. I'll show myself to the exit of this thread now.
