im tired and burned out. Is it too late for me to find a new career at 56 years old?
I had a long executive sales background. Can a fat gray haired guy compete with the energy of youth or is this going to be a big disappointment?

Well, I hate to think so, but I just don't know. I also thought about a career change at this point in my life, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I'm thinking I would have to go back to school and get a degree in some other area, and I just don't know if I have the strength, energy, or money to do so. :(

But, that being said, I'm sure if you put your mind to it, you can do anything, right? :dontknow:

Depends on what you want to do. Most jobs just are not worth competing for.

    Fuck no!

I remember when I could only drink one beer and take one hit of weed.

Now i can drink a 12-pack and smoke a half ounce in one day!

If you work hard enough, dreams can come true!

You could invent something. How about a "jump to conclusions" mat?

Hell yeah. Why not, Stosh. Get out there and kick ass. Life ain't a dress rehearsal. Go for it! I hate to say it, but experience beats out youth in a lot of situations. :)

I know a person who had to leave their job at 50 to get a knew trade. Ended up being a nurse and is doing WAY better then before. Like 40,000 better a year. 58, and still chugging along. Doesnt regret it one bit.

Be an Entrepreneur. Hell, I don't know why more people don't try it. There's no safety net in working for a company these days anyway. Plus, you reap all the rewards from your hard work.

They guy wasn't middle aged, he was young, but a long time before that movie I knew a guy from HS who actually hit me up with a very similar idea to that. It even had a mat. Wanted me to invest. Guy was cool in HS, became a total loser later.

It's never too late to change.

Just apply for other jobs while you still have this one.

You have a lot of skills and contacts from your time in executive sales. Marry those with your interests and do what you did as a sales person - define the target, create the need and opportunity for yourself and sell the shit out of it. Freelance or find a small company that can use your skills.

Don't worry about competing with younger people - you have a different portfolio. You're fighting your own boredom more than anything else. A little change and risk will energize you (just plan all this out before you walk away from your current gig).
