wanted to share this with you guys, thought you might get a kick out of it.

a fucking giant of a man & a dear friend of me & my family passed. he really would've fit right in with this motley crew (if he knew how to work a goddamn computer) ...a hard working, hard drinking bar owner & a veteran.

he knew he was going and he wrote his last requests & arrangements. a badass till the end. gonna be celebrating him this sunday. this is his obituary.

    Douglas Burdick
    Obituary
    [IMG]
Douglas Burdick, age 69, of Nedrow, kicked the bucket on Saturday at home surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Lynn "Red" and Margaret (Wadsworth) Burdick and stepmother, Barbara (Dupree) Burdick. During his magnificent life he served in the Air Force and retired from New Venture Gear/UAW Local 624 after 30 years of service. He was a successful businessman having owned Burdick's Tavern for the past 23 years. During his life he generously helped countless people that he met along his many great journeys.
Doug is survived by his two sons, Douglas R. (Tricia) and Michael D. Burdick; two grandsons, Tyson and Bryce Burdick. He was predeceased by his wife, Adele Shenandoah Burdick in 2011 and reunited with her on Valentine's Day 2015.

At Doug's request there will be no funeral services. A celebration of his life will begin at noon on Sunday at the Nedrow Fire Dept. He also wished for all his good friends and family to attend "CHURCH" at Burdick's Tavern after they have filled their bellies. Doug left specific written demands "Don't make a fool of yourself, show up the way you always dress, No Monkey Suits. No tears welcome, just smiles. Relax, eat, drink, party and enjoy yourself." Grrrrrrr!

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Doug was extremely proud of his grandson, Bryce, who is going to Brave the Shave to raise money for Childhood Cancer Research. For further information refer to website: StBaldricks.org/participants/bryceb

Arrangements are entrusted to Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, Inc., Syracuse.

    Sorry For your loss..:console:

He sounds like he was such a fun, wonderful man..That's the way to do it. Not these stupid wakes where people gawk at your corpse.

He does sound awesome, sorry to hear he's gone.

I especially like his demands, his "Don't make a fool of yourself" should be a life lesson.

i liked that our local newspaper, the syracuse post-standard, printed that. exactly what he wanted. haven't heard "kick the bucket" in many obits.

this was a sad, but nice line

"He was predeceased by his wife, Adele Shenandoah Burdick in 2011 and reunited with her on Valentine’s Day 2015."

    he died on valentines day

For deaths that aren't sudden, I always thought that the "Celebration of Life" should take place while the person was winding down and still alive. It really would be great to have the person who will soon be deceased actually *hear* the tributes and good words from his/her friends and family.

Wise man... And words to live by.

Would have loved to have a beer and trade sea stories with the man.
