I'm going to have a free evening in Los Angeles in a couple weeks. Where is a 'must go' place? Staying near LAX, wouldn't mind going somewhere to see celebs or something. But also considering 'house of blues'... Anyway, ideas welcome!

Sam Simon's house. Just go in through the window and he left the food for you in the fridge. Bye for now.

Used to live in Seattle, was there for the e.coli outbreak at JITB... Haven't eaten there since.

    Saddle Ranch.

On Sunset. Plenty of people watching and you might see a celeb ride the bull in the restaurant.

Head over to the Staples Center and grab a dog at a Lakers or Kings playoff game.

I know it's lame, but whenever I go to LA, the first place I hit is In-N-Out Burger.

Me too, when I'm in your area my go to's are Jimmy John's for a Vito sub and Harry Caray's bar for a bacon cheeseburger.

Oh, and I'll be 'suited up,' so dress code is not an issue. No guarantees on what piece of shit rental car I'll get from Avis, though!

Most folks will recommend you head north up to the West Side of LA for your fine dining experience - and there's no question that Santa Monica, Hollywood, Westwood, etc., have restaurants that will deliver.

You may, however, want to consider heading south from the LAX area for at least one meal while you're in town. Some very nice, but not ridiculously expensive establishments are operating in Manhattan Beach which is very close by and doesn't involve the hassle of negotiating any freeway miles to access. Here's an article from last year that provides a decent overview of the local scene.

    Mastro's Steakhouse on N Canon.

Best steakhouse in the US but be prepared to drop some coin.

Love Jimmy Johns. Never been to Harry Caray's. I did work for a month right across the street in Google's Chicago offices.
