A Groupon for one of these popped up awhile back, I bought one, and I finally plugged it in over the weekend.

I've been on a quest to eventually get rid of DirecTV, but access to live sports is what keeps me tethered.

Do any of you guys/gals/transgendered have any recommendations for decent apps (without dead links), especially related to sports?

The international stuff is pretty cool, I was able to get the PAC-12 Network (and saw my Devils get roasted by USC yesterday in baseball), and I've been binge watching an anime series Shirobako, so far...

    WTF are you talking about?

There are no "links" in my post.

People name drop brand names here all of the time...

SlingTV has an Android TV app. 20 bucks a month for their cheapest package and includes ESPN and ESPN 2.

Here's the deal... I understand you don't want the cable companies to have your money , the problem is you are ripping off the content creator's. Back in the infancy of Kodi (called XBMC or Xbox Media Center back in the day) it was fun to play with if you felt like digging in. Now it is so accessible to everyone that I have to imagine that without a new pay model it could affect the product. Also if sports is your thing good luck to you, there will be a lot of times you will be missing the big game and watching cricket instead.

If people post sites that link copyrighted material that is not legally broadcast, their accounts will be killed.

I didn't do that. There are no posted links.

I get where @pope29 is coming from, though. It's essentially a web crawler (from what my limited techno brain can gather), but I know a lot of people use it to upload and watch first run movies (p2p?)

It's definitely "grey," but if they really start to cut into the dough the studios make, they'll probably Napster-Pirate Bay it away...

It's not P2p. People (really companies nowadays, it's big business) upload media to free file hosting sites and said companies/individuals then script addons to kodi to facilitate finding said movies and tv shows.

We use the Sling app. There is an option for an additional $5 a month for all the ESPN channels. It comes with TNT, for basketball. That, coupled with a digital tuner for the broadcast networks, and we don't miss much.

I've got a subscription to Sports Business Journal and read an article a week or so back about Hulu adding TNT, ESPN, and Fox Sports for their sports programming.

When that happens, I'll probably cut the cord for good.

I'd be happy , MORE than happy, to part with my cash if I can get live NFL games via Apple TV or whatever/whomever can ink that deal. Like NFL Red Zone on Sundays, just the live highlights for like seven straight hours. TAKE MY MONEY.

I can see any of my teams online. If you know which sites to trust and are willing to put up with a few popups each time you visit.

It's really a losing battle for copyright holders. In some cases they'd be better off providing the content free online and advertising, rather than fighting it at this point.
For several years the NCAA Tournament had every game streamed online for free, so you didn't have to watch whatever game your affiliate chose for you to watch. Now they have all the games on tv, but on channels you have to pay for much of the time and to watch a game online, you have to use your login/password for your cable/dish provider. So, you see that "grey" market pop up now where the games are streamed illegally.

I'm thinking the NFL will do some kind of stand-alone pay-per-stream type of deal in the future. The Yahoo! stream of that Jags game in London last season went off fairly well.

Maybe they'll do some sort of NFL GO deal, but charge outrageously for it, once their deal with DirecTV expires. I feel the NFL wants total control of EVERYTHING when it comes to their :quote: product :quote:

This X 100. You really need to geek out with those boxes to keep the content links working. I jumped to the Roku and pay $25 for all the tv (inl the $5 news option) I need. I used to hate dealing with "cable/dish" due to the enormous amount of SHIT I'd have to scroll through. That being said if the Roku craps out I'll def go w/ an Amazon device as Spinz doesn't appear to be available for the Roku.
