The teacher investigated and accused last week of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student at South Gwinnett High School was identified on Monday. Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said the allegations have been made against Therese Gunn. They came to the attention of administrators at the school on Tuesday when the mother of the 17-year-old male student came to the school to report it. Pihera has said the case is still being investigated and charges could be determined at the end of the investigation. Gunn was not booked in the Gwinnett jail by Monday afternoon, according to online records. Gunn, a music teacher, had worked at the school since 2002, said Gwinnett County Public Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach, who didn’t identify her late last week. Roach said the teacher resigned on Tuesday. A school resource officer and the Department of Family and Children Services were also made aware of the incident. Gwinnett County police took over the investigation on Wednesday, and Pihera said the the relationship began some time in March and has since ended. Some of the sexual activity occurred at the school, at the teacher’s residence and at Lenora Park. The student admitted to having a sexual relationship with the music teacher. According to Gunn’s LinkedIn profile, she taught orchestra, guitar and piano at South since 2009. Other employment experience included owning a Bruster’s Ice Cream franchise from 2010 to 2015 and as a cashier at Publix since June 2015.
