Samsung invents the Salvador Dali smartphone

Proving that it was not a freak accident; that all Samsung Note 7s are supposed to evolve after purchase into a unique design. Lets see Apple sue them for copying this!

At this point, with replacements doing the same thing, they might as well scrap this iteration of the Note, and wait till next year with a properly vetted design, that perhaps doesn't push the boundaries as much as this obviously flawed model did.

Yeah the media is calling for them to acknowledge that the 7 failed and move on to early release the 8 now.

but will the primary innovation of the Note 8 be that it does not explode?

when the price is low enough.

Jet Blue tried to get FAA approval to fly planes with no seats. the standing room only flights would allow them to pack more people in and charge less per spot.

Anybody know what happened with these batteries yet? I'm too lazy to search. Had to be internal shorts from contamination at manufacture right?

I'm expecting to see the CNN article:

    "Explosion in Chelsea, part 2"

A knapsack on the sidewalk in Chelsea exploded last night. From analysis the FBI has concluded that the knapsack was packed with 200 Samsung Note 7 smartphones.

A statement issued by the office of Mayor DiBlasio indicates that terrorism has not been ruled out at this time.

Speculation all over the place with this story. I've been hearing too large a battery for too small a space, and a thermal runaway event occurring.

i thought something had to cause the battery membrane container to rupture to get the gel to ignite in contact with air.

Hmmm. Seems impossible with integrated protection on the cell. That would open the battery at any over temp condition.

:dontknow: If I knew I'd be selling the secret to fixing it to Samsung for big money.

Software updates can only do so much if those cells are internally shorting somehow. That's my guess since it happens even during idle time.

That's the scariest part of this whole thing. One guy was asleep and woke up to his replacement Note 7 smoking, when it wasn't even charging. He later went to the hospital because he was feeling sick and coughing up black gunk.

Lithium ion has always had these dangers. I think manufacturers just got lax because there haven't been many problems in the past. I'm interested to hear the root cause analysis. Sad part is if Samsung didn't make these cells it's not even their fault. :jj:

they did say they are contacting with the same battery manufacturer that Apple uses now.

its kind of sad for one of the major global semiconductor manufacturers to have to farm out a basic technology like that.
