Anthony Cumia Listeners Couldn’t Kill SiriusXM: Despite Boycott, Q3 Subscribers Hit Record High

Article takes a potshot at Cumia (& a minor one on Stern)

Nobody in their right mind expected SXM to crumble. O&A always openly admitted they did not have the subs Stern does & he wouldn't cripple the company either

But it seems like not a lot canceled
They usually have a breakdown on how many canceled subs they have per quarter. I can't find it yet (a lot of number mumbo-jumbo so far). That would be interesting

The % of subscribers that left in the last 3 months was basically the same as the last year was
    1.9%
So there was no "Cumia affect".
I figured as much when they kept O&J

Still a fun show to watch here/there

I noticed the same thing. If Cumias firing cost them 5000 subs, and they picked up much more,no one would notice.

I was mad when they fired Anthony but I spend so much time in my car I couldn't get rid of Sirius. It's still a good overall product.

Anthony has to accept that in the grand theme of things,at sirius,he is not that big of a deal.He tried to interpret the info about the subs and find a way to show his firing had an affect,it really didn`t.

He was a bigger deal than most. His reported salary was $3 million a year.
his leaving wasn't an industry changer though by any stretch.
If anything SXM might have saved money by losing his salary & keeping O&J.
Only SXM knows the exact number that used him as a cancel reason
There cancel % did not really change that quarter (it was 1.9% & the usually do 1.8-1.9%)

I'm surprised more people here are not fans of his.
It is the exact audience he is going for & has.
1Vegas & I tried to get a buzz going for him here, but it just didn't happen.
    I don't see/hear a buzz anywhere.
I can't see him anywhere near 100k in subs, f he did that he would be making 5 million a year in his pocket.
If the money in a paywall was that good for Cumia, bigger stars & radio guys would do it & work 8hrs a week.
None of this has to do with his show which I like, I just think there is a small ceiling for a guy alone on screen in LI talking about viral headlines or having d-level guest.

It is back to the old design AGAIN

    I thought this was funny

It is Madonna & Kanye & CDAN hints at the other guy being Kanye's 'male friend' lol

7 replies does say a lot about how badly he's doing, or at least about how much anyone cares. Some people here were vocal fans and they even renamed this DEDICATED subforum just for the new podcast show. And yet still, even here, very few seem to care one way or the other about the new show or the impact on Sirius.

Artie is about to make the same mistake with another ill-conceived attempt at a paid podcast. His won't even do as well.

Or maybe they'll both end up doing fine. Who knows.

In an attempt to be fair (that is, to not be too much of a dick) I did some quick math on, literally, a dirty napkin.

The last 10 Artie Lange subforum threads total 393 replies dating to October 10.

The last 10 Anthony Cumia subforum threads total 101 replies dating to October 27. Going back to October 10 gets him 143 total replies.

Artie doesn't HAVE A SHOW and hasn't for months. He's a hopeless addict that even we last few fans are chatting about dropping.

I'm not saying either one has impressive numbers. We are all just echoing into empty rooms. Both have their remaining fans, and both are trying to milk what they can from them.

I agree that replies on DS don't really mean anything in figuring out Cumia's subscriptions.

But the truth is, there is no buzz anywhere including here).
You would think disgruntled Stern fans would be interested, but I think the paywall is a big issue.

Maybe a better idea would have been to do a 3hr show with the first hr free
    or
Offer the show free but have a VIP area where Anthony does a Q&A show for VIP's one day a week or something.

That could work, maybe. Didn't Bubber's show have an OTA/pay satellite split for a while? O&A too. Not sure if it's effective ("stay for hour 3 to hear us curse about this!"). Artie in particular is hung up on "being able to say what he wants" because of the plain stupid DTV censorship. But anything's better than putting up an all or nothing paywall.

In all fairness, artie came from a show with 12 million listeners anthony was on a show with maybe a million listeners. This gives artie quite a head start. I enjoy anthony's show more than stern, opie radio, and artie's show and will continue to watch it.

It's not the cursing you would hold back. He should just do his show, then give away a portion of it. Make that portion worth listening to, but leave them wanting more. So if you cant or won't pay, you can hear a little with commercials. But have a full show without the comercials behind the paywall.
